Tiles are down, but before the grout comes out, it’s time for the glamorous job of **cleaning out all those grout lines.** 😂

Any excess adhesive needs scraping out while it’s manageable. Leave it too long and congratulations… you’ve just invented yourself a much harder job! 🤦‍♂️

Clean joints mean the grout can get properly into the gaps and give us that nice, neat finished look.

It’s another one of those little jobs that takes time but makes a **BIG difference to the finish.**

Floor tiling in a small bathroom isn’t just a trade… apparently it’s a full-body workout.

One minute you’re measuring and cutting, the next you’re doing moves that wouldn’t look out of place in an 80s aerobics video. 🤸😂

🎵 And stretch… and reach… hold it… now pass me the tile adhesive! 😂

Small room, big tiles and nowhere to hide — sometimes you’ve just got to bend yourself into whatever shape is required to get the job done properly.

The monkey’s finally allowed to start laying the floor! 😂

But before a single tile gets stuck down, there’s the small matter of measuring, marking out, checking the layout and working out all the cuts.

Because starting at one end and hoping for the best is a fantastic technique… if you enjoy ripping tiles back up. 🤦‍♂️😂

Get the layout right first, and the tiling becomes a whole lot easier.

🐵 Slow down. Mark it out. Get it right. Then get the tiles down!

🐒 GROUTED… CLEANED… AND NOW IT’S STARTING TO LOOK LIKE A BATHROOM!

After what feels like 47,000 metro tiles, a mountain of spacers and more cuts than I care to count… the grouting is done! 😂

This is the stage where all that slow, fiddly work finally comes together. The grout brings the whole pattern to life, sharpens up the lines and gives you that clean finished look. 👌

There’s still plenty to do, but we’re definitely seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now.

🐒 THE TILES AREN’T EVEN DOWN YET!

People see a finished bathroom and think the job is mainly about putting the tiles on the wall or floor.

If only! 😂

There are loads of little stages before the first tile even gets laid, and today it’s all about priming the floor.

It’s not the glamorous bit. Nobody walks into their new bathroom and says, “Wow Steve, that primer looks fantastic!” 🤣 But it’s one of those jobs that helps make sure the tile adhesive gets a proper bond to the surface.

Can you skip preparation and save yourself a bit of time? Of course.

But if the tiles don’t bond properly later, you haven’t saved anything — you’ve just moved the problem further down the road and made it far more expensive. 💷😬

Preparation takes time. Doing it twice takes longer.

🐒 WE CAN SEE THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL! 😂

After what feels like 4,000 metro tiles, 8,000 spacers and enough tile adhesive to stick a monkey to the ceiling… we’ve finally reached grouting day! 🐒🪣

This is the satisfying bit. The grout goes in, all those individual tiles start coming together and suddenly it stops looking like a building site and starts looking like a bathroom. 👌

There’s still cleaning, silicone, fitting out and finishing touches to go, but we can officially see the light at the end of the tunnel…

Hopefully it’s not another tradesman coming towards me with another bucket of grout. 🤣

🐒 SMALL AREA… BIG JOB!

You look around a window and think, “That’ll only take five minutes.” 😂

Then you meet metro tiles.

Cut one. Measure another. Cut around the frame. Check the line. Adjust it. Clean the adhesive. Stand back. Stare at it. Question your life choices… then cut another one. 🤣

The smaller the area, the more fiddly it seems to get — especially with metro tiles where every line and every little cut is there for everyone to see.

It might only be a window reveal, but getting it looking neat takes time, patience and plenty of monkeying around. 🐒🔨

Slow and steady. Get the details right. Do it once, do it properly.

I swear I clear the window sill… turn around for five minutes… and somehow it’s full again!

Tile spacers, offcuts, pencils, tools, dust — apparently **if it’s flat, it’s fair game!** 😂

But first job of the morning is always the same: clear yesterday’s mess, clean everything down and get ready to crack on.

Because a tidy workspace makes for a tidy job… even if the monkey struggles to keep it that way! 🐵🔧

🐵 TOWEL RAIL TIME — ANOTHER JOB TICKED OFF! 🔧

With the tiling grouted and cleaned, it’s time to get the new towel rail connected.

First, drain the system down, then modify the pipework so everything lines up neatly with the new rail. Once connected, it’s time to fill the system back up, add inhibitor, bleed the air out and test everything for leaks and correct operation.

No magic. No shortcuts. Just doing each stage properly. 👍

🐵 METRO TILES — SMALL TILE, BIG JOB!

Metro tiles look fantastic, but don’t be fooled by their size… they take a lot longer to fit! 😅

With a larger tile, you can cover a decent area pretty quickly. With metro tiles, there are far more individual tiles to cut, level, space and line up — and every little grout line needs to look right.

Then there are corners, sockets, pipework and those lovely little cuts that seem to appear everywhere. 😂

So when choosing your tiles, remember:

More tiles = more cuts
More grout lines = more time
More time = more labour cost

There’s nothing wrong with choosing metro tiles — they can look brilliant. I just like customers to understand why the tiling cost may be higher.
