There's more to these garage doors than meets the eye.

At first glance, two simple white roller garage doors. Neat, understated and sitting comfortably alongside the traditional brickwork of this Orpington home.

But there's considerably more going on behind that clean appearance.

These are SWS SeceuroGlide Original insulated roller garage doors, designed to offer much more than a convenient way to close the garage.

With insulated aluminium construction and a unique locking system, they're designed with security and everyday practicality in mind. Both doors are also Secured by Design accredited, offering additional reassurance beyond their appearance.

Somfy motors make opening and closing effortless, with a wall-mounted control unit and two handsets providing convenient access.

And with a 7-year manufacturer's warranty, there's long-term reassurance built into the choice, too.

Because choosing a garage door isn't just about how it looks on the outside. It's about knowing what's behind it.

Sometimes, shade can bring a little sunshine of its own.

Against the white façade, timber decking and dark roofline, the warm orange fabric of this markilux MX-3 adds a completely different character when extended - a bold splash of colour over the patio and a warm glow beneath the awning when sunlight filters through.

Installed in Orpington by our Sidcup team, this MX-3 measures an impressive 4.2m wide with a 3.5m projection, giving the large decked area plenty of usable shade. Positioned above the bifold doors, it also helps reduce direct solar heat reaching the glazing, helping to keep the rooms behind more comfortable on hot summer days.

When it's no longer needed, everything retracts neatly into the Anthracite Metallic full cassette, leaving only the slim, understated profile against the white exterior.

This installation features Sunvas 31042 fabric, Somfy motorised operation, remote control and an automatic wind sensor.

A little more shade. A lot more colour.

This garage door takes up a lot of space. Yet it doesn't take all the attention.

At 5.24 metres wide, this Hörmann LPU 42 is a substantial garage door. But rather than dominating the front of the property, its clean L-ribbed design and Agate Grey Silkgrain finish help it become part of the architecture.

The colour picks up the entrance door across the driveway, creating a visual connection between the two, while the understated grey sits comfortably alongside the white render, natural timber cladding and darker roof details.

Behind that simple exterior, the LPU 42 is built from 42mm double-skinned steel sections for very good thermal insulation, with the Silkgrain surface also providing increased stability and smooth running.

And security is part of the thinking too. When fitted as an automatic sectional door, Hörmann's mechanical anti-lift system locks the closed door against forced opening – and continues to do so even if the power fails.

A sizeable door, doing its job without taking over the whole picture.

Sometimes, the smallest outdoor spaces can feel the most inviting.

Tucked between the walls of this home is a wonderfully intimate patio - warm brick, weathered timber decking, planting and large wooden doors connecting it directly to the kitchen.

The challenge wasn't creating more space. It was making more of the space already there.

Two markilux awnings now work around the L-shaped layout: a 4m × 3m MX-3 and a compact 3.25m × 1.5m 6000.

Extended together, they shade much of the patio and give it the feeling of an outdoor room. Retracted, the space opens back up to the sky.

The markilux 6000 also features Shadeplus, which can be lowered vertically when additional protection from the sun is needed - particularly when it reaches the space from a lower angle.

Both awnings are finished in Anthracite Metallic with matching 41460 fabric, sitting naturally alongside the warm brick, timber and planting already surrounding the space.

Somfy motors make both awnings effortless to operate, with Vibrabox sensors providing additional protection when conditions change.

A small patio, perhaps - but one with plenty of room for outdoor living.

More than one way to create shade.

For this Hemel Hempstead home, we created a more complete shading solution using two different markilux systems.

A 5.9m markilux MX-3 extends across the patio to provide generous overhead shade, while the matching markilux 790 side screen provides additional shade from the side when needed - with the added benefit of greater privacy.

Both are finished in White with matching Sunbow 41450 fabric, making two different forms of shading feel like one considered solution.

There’s plenty happening behind the scenes too. Bespoke white gutter brackets were made specifically for the property, while motorised operation and a wireless wind sensor make the MX-3 simple to use and help protect it when conditions change.
