Over the last few years we have supplied Andrew Wood and Rother Valley Railway for the reconstruction of the Kent & East Sussex Railway from Robertsbridge to Bodiam. Rother Valley Railway

We recently went along to see the progress, as sections of track near Robertsbridge are starting to be installed. Materials we have supplied include: Primary 6f5, Type 1, Road Planings, 30/70mm Granite, Crushed Concrete and Granular Asphalt.

At John Bourne & Co Ltd, we are proud to play even a small part in this highly ambitious local project, which endeavours to restore a historic route, preserve the area’s heritage, while potentially boosting regional tourism and contributing to local economic development.

“Once the reconnection is complete, visitors from all over the country will be able to come to Robertsbridge by mainline railway, before boarding a Kent and East Sussex Railway heritage train to visit Bodiam Castle, Tenterden Town and other local attractions.”

Views from the passenger seat ☀️ last week two of our drivers made the trek to Cornwall and back in a day, with a special delivery of 10/20mm Cotswold Stone to Liskeard, for Long Rake Spar Co. Ltd.

Sharing the drive time meant a being able to backload with PAS100 Compost to our yard in Newenden, to replenish stock for sister company Gardenscape.

How it all began: founded in 1947, John Bourne and Co. began with spreading agricultural lime across Kent and East Sussex. Now almost 80 years later, we are still a family-run business, third generation led, with the same commitment to quality, safety and sustainability.

Sourced from chalk quarries on the North and South Downs, our agricultural lime is still a cornerstone product of the business. We offer a variety of spreading equipment to suit different crop requirements, specially adapted to minimise crop and tree damage. Additionally, we supply and spread PAS100 green compost to increase soil organic matter, ideal for viticulturists and fruit growers.

collaboration: working alongside sister company to supply Lovell Landscapes with our Medium Ornamental Bark. The team are providing landscaping services at the Persimmon Homes Ovinia Chase development, Minster on Sea.

Our Medium Ornamental bark is a 50:50 blend of white wood and darker ornamental spruce bark. It is a 0/75mm product and our most popular bark mulch, offering a good consistent finish.

We’re once again supporting the incredible ’s annual Christmas tree collection campaign.

Earlier this week, we collected over 70 trees to contribute towards the charity’s target of 2,600 trees and goal of raising £57,000, to support people facing terminal illnesses and those important to them.
By providing our green waste collection services, we are proud to support the vital care the hospice provides, while facilitating environmentally responsible tree disposal.

A  collaboration with ’s bulker grab and assistance from . Thank you to Lewis and Paul for all their efforts again this year.
