Latest window install - and this is one I’m really pleased about as it’s the first time we’ve fitted Quickslide’s new aluminium casement units..

cool thing is they fit right into the same space regular original timber casements vacate - and have almost identical sightlines proportions-wise.

So, with this one the breif was to leave the (lovely) stained glass in place, just replacing the lower units with alu double glazing.

I’ve also painted them on the outside to match the new colour scheme the customer wanted (agate grey).

(Last pic is the ‘before’).

Latest restoration - nice semi in kenilworth.

Lots of timber rot (particularly on the window cills & patio door bottom rails) - all cleaned out and filled with toupret powder mix wood filler which is great stuff for external joinery repairs.

Rosemary tiles on bay roof painted with rustins black tile & floor paint (which is super tough).

All white exterior timber painted up with leyland acrylic primer, then dulux opaque (water based exterior - RAL 9016 traffic white which has a slight grey tint to it).

Latest sash window install - 7 front windows replaced with woodgrained anthracite to match the previous.

These all have the ‘slim midrail’ option with run thro sash horns, which make all the difference & provide for a nice authentic period look.

Here’s an example of what I mean by ‘restoration, using modern materials..’ ..

Very grotty effort by someone in the past obviously trying to seal a leak or draught coming through the sash box/brickwork join.

External frame sealant applied, then dabbed over with a wet sponge to work it into the crevices and blend in with the brickwork (and disguise the mess of sealant which otherwise would be almost impossible to clean off) - and voila, nice fresh look to the install ::).

(Ps reminder that we fit the new units into the existing sash box whenever possible; means customers get to keep the original detailing - eg. Cill /architrave / exterior reveals etc - that make a period home look the part).

Another double bay Victorian semi completed - this time in Earlsdon, Coventry.

Original windows (see last pic) swapped out for nicely detailed pvc sashes, sourced from Quickslide.

Customer went for the A+ 1.2u value glazing upgrade, so should be super warm this winter.

Spent a bit more time on the bathroom, and two rear facing bedrooms as these had been replaced / ‘refurbed’ over the years - resulting in loss of the interior architraves and trims (which we’ve now replaced with something characterful) plus some really awful re-pointing that we’ve now disguised with brown frame sealant carefully sponged over the areas.

Final job was resetting the hinge geometry to get the door to close properly - and applying some storm guard pro door draught excluders.

Looks good ::).

So here’s a little example of the ‘mini restoration’ you get when we fit a new window into an original sash box :-

quite often the joint between the edge of the old window and the brickwork needs tlc, with missing mortar, and attempts over the years to seal gaps with mastic and / or ‘over painting’ (paint on the brick).

In the pics you can see the before & after on our latest job of how we’ve tidied up the joint on an upstairs window - scraping away anything non original, then filling any gaps (expanding foam works well in most cases), and sealing/ blending in with careful application of brown acrylic frame sealant, with the excess wiped away with a damp sponge before repainting.

Makes the sash box woodwork (and pvc framing - which you can see butted up to it) stand out really nicely.

Latest job completed.. nice Victorian semi in Stoke Park, Coventry - original sashes swapped out for Quickslide slim midrail pvc sashes (smooth white finish).

We’ve again (it’s kind of my signiture approach with jobs on older properties) installed them into the original sash boxes so as to retain as much architrave / cill detail & character as possible

Bottom rails of most of the old sashes were showing quite a bit of rot from the condensation which affects single glazed windows over colder months. That’ll not be a problem anymore with the modern double glazing these replacements come with.

(Last pic is the ‘before’).

Ps. It also happened to be the customers birthday today - she said the windows were great - and a lovely birthday present :;).
