⚠️ A Near Miss This Morning⚠️

We attended an emergency call-out this morning after the homeowner reported hearing crackling noises coming from inside a wall and seeing flashing from beneath the skirting board.

After investigating, we uncovered severe overheating and burning within the electrical installation. As you can see from the photo, the customer was extremely fortunate that this didn’t develop into a much more serious fire.

One of the contributing factors was that the property still had an old rewireable fuse board, which offers very limited protection compared to modern consumer units fitted with RCD and RCBO protection.

🚨 Warning signs you should never ignore:
⚡ Crackling or buzzing sounds
⚡ Flickering lights
⚡ Burning smells
⚡ Discoloured sockets or switches
⚡ Warm walls, sockets, or skirting boards

Electrical faults don’t fix themselves and can escalate very quickly.

If your home still has an older fuse board or you’ve noticed anything unusual with your electrics, it’s worth getting them checked before a small problem becomes a major one.

🏡 How Old Is Too Old For A Rewire? ⚡

One of the most common questions we're asked is:
💬 "How do I know if my house needs rewiring?"

The truth is, age alone doesn't determine whether a rewire is needed, but it can be a good indicator.

If your property has:�
⚠️ A rewireable fuse board instead of a modern consumer unit�
⚠️ Rubber, lead or fabric-insulated cables
�⚠️ Frequent tripping circuits�
⚠️ Limited sockets and lots of extension leads�
⚠️ Never had an electrical upgrade..it may be worth having the installation assessed.

Many of the homes we work in are 50+ years old and often have hidden issues that homeowners simply can't see.

Over the years we’ve uncovered:�⚡ Old rubber wiring�⚡ Junction boxes buried under floors�⚡ DIY additions from decades ago�⚡ Cables with insulation literally crumbling away

A lot of electrical problems stay hidden until work starts, which is why inspections are so important in older properties.
