This job started as a straightforward overskim on a tired partition wall. While we were chatting, the customer mentioned the noise coming through as one side is used as an office. So we talked them through soundproofing and the different levels of improvement you can get using systems from the Soundproofing Store.
With limited space to loose our option were to go for ProSound SoundBoard 4 Stud Wall. 30mm loss of space. Which includes
- High-density 60kg per m³ insulation
- Soundboard 4 with matting.
A couple of soundproofing myth-busters:
• Just fill the cavity with insulation." Acoustic mineral wool helps, but on its own it won't make a big difference. It works best as part of a full system using the correct density.
• Just install blue acoustic plasterboard." Acoustic board is heavier than standard board and does help, but on its own the gain is very small.
As sound travels, there are more steps to take to get the best results. These include filling any gaps, making sure everything is fully sealed and insulating between the floor joists and ceiling joists.
