Getting the installation right is just as important as choosing the right stepped cavity tray.

When installing Lisnastrain stepped cavity trays, each tray should be fully bedded in fresh mortar to ensure continuous support and a watertight seal. Mortar should be spread evenly across the bed joint before placing the tray, ensuring there are no voids beneath the polypropylene tray or around the attached lead flashing.

Key installation points:
✔ Fully bed each stepped tray in mortar.
✔ Ensure a minimum 150mm overlap between successive trays.
✔ Keep all weep vents clear of mortar to allow moisture to drain from the cavity.
✔ Tool mortar joints neatly to prevent water tracking.
✔ Protect the lead flashing during bricklaying and dress it correctly once the masonry is complete.
✔ Maintain the designed cavity width and prevent mortar droppings from bridging the cavity.

A correctly installed stepped cavity tray system intercepts moisture within the cavity and safely discharges it through weep vents, helping to protect internal finishes, insulation and structural elements from water ingress.
