Wepre Park is an ancient woodland rich in wildlife and history. It's located in Connah's Quay, Flintshire in North Wales and is used by over 200,000 visitors from across the region annually. Its 160 acres are packed full of diversity, where there is something for everyone to do or see. Features include...

The remains of Ewloe Castle, which was built in the 13th centuary, from local stone. It exch

anged hands several times between the english and the welsh during that time. Red Rocks, a distinctive red coloured sandstone outcrop along the main trail of the park, from which the castle and some of the old hall garden walls were built from. The waterfall, built by the Victorian residents of the Old Hall, once produced power for the Hall, and hopefully will be able to do the same for the Visitor Centre. The Old Hall Gardens, situated behind the Visitor Centre, the original gardens from the old Hall remain. The Visitor Centre, built on the site of the Old Hall in 1989, what you see today in mark 2 of the building after an arson attack in 2003 destroyed two thirds of the roof structure. When you visit look out for the wooden pillars which bear the scars of the attack in the form of scorch marks. A cafe, located in the Visitor Centre, it sells hot and cold food and drinks as well as sweets and ice creams. The park also has a fishing pond, a play area for the children, a skate park and football pitches, as well as an array of path ways to walk and areas to picnic. The park is protected, as well as by by-laws, by its SSSI status. This means the site is one of special scientific interest, for the Great Creasted Newts which can be found here and for the ancient woodlands. The Great Crested Newt is a nationally rare species, giving them a high level of protection, their numbers are monitored annually by the Ranger team, and many of the works carried out are for the benefit of them.
