Do you know about the Party Wall Act? 👀

The Party Wall Act 1996 is a law in England and Wales that gives property owners a framework to prevent and resolve building disputes involving shared walls, boundary lines, and nearby excavations.

Key rules to understand:
✔️ Give written notice to your neighbour (adjoining owner) before you start work.
✔️ Provide notice at least two months in advance for structural party wall work.
✔️ Provide notice at least one month in advance for excavation work or new boundary walls.
✔️ Neighbours have 14 days to reply in writing to consent or dissent to the notice.
✔️ If a neighbour disagrees or does not reply, a formal dispute arises and a surveyor must be appointed.

Engineering a safe and sustainable solution on the South Coast. 🌊

Following a period of exceptionally wet weather, a coastal cliff on the South Coast became unstable, causing significant ground movement and damage to a nearby residential property.

Our Structural and Geotechnical Engineers carried out detailed site investigations to assess the extent of the instability and associated risks. Their findings informed the design of a bespoke retaining structure to stabilise the cliff and help prevent further movement. 🚧

With restricted site access and significant damage to the property, part of the affected residence also required demolition and reconstruction. Our Architectural Designers and Surveyors managed this aspect of the project, providing a coordinated approach to both structural remediation and property redevelopment.

Heathrow Airport - delivering temporary works at Britain's busiest airport. ✈️

Following the discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) within roof slabs at Heathrow Airport, our team developed a bespoke temporary works solution to support the safe removal of the affected elements. With strict height restrictions preventing crane-assisted removal, we designed an alternative approach that enabled works to be carried out safely while keeping the lower levels of the buildings operational.

Our scope included the design of:
✔️ A bespoke crash deck
✔️ Independent scaffolding
✔️ Safe access and egress arrangements for the lower storey

This project demonstrates how innovative temporary works design can overcome challenging site constraints, prioritising safety while minimising disruption to one of the UK's busiest transport hubs.
