5 Tips to Accessorise Your Outdoor Space โœจ

The furniture might be the big decision, but it's the accessories that actually make a space feel finished, and lived in. Here's where to start.

1. Fermob Lights
Soft, ambient lighting instantly extends your evenings outdoors. Fermob's (Fermob) lighting range brings the same colour and character as their furniture, so everything ties together rather than looking like an afterthought once the sun goes down.

2. Blankets
A good throw means those slightly cooler evenings don't send everyone inside. Weaver Green (Weaver Green) blankets are woven from recycled plastic bottles, genuinely weatherproof, and soft enough that you'd never guess.

3. Scatter Cushions
The easiest way to add colour, comfort and personality to any seating. Caneline's (Cane-line) cushions are designed specifically for outdoor use, so they can live on your furniture through the season without a second thought.

4. Storage Stools
Extra seating when you need it, hidden storage when you don't. Fermob's (Fermob) storage stools are a genuinely clever addition, practical and good-looking in equal measure.

5. Rugs
Grounds a seating area and instantly makes it feel like a proper outdoor room rather than furniture scattered on grass or paving. Weaver Green (Weaver Green) rugs bring the same durable, weatherproof quality as their blankets, in patterns that hold their colour outdoors.

Small additions, big difference. Come and see the full range in person.

Goodbye August ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

It's been a month of surprises, both botanical and marketing. We kicked off with National Flower Day and a nudge to plant trees now for autumn, then rolled straight into our Tree of the Week run: the flamingo willow, the black mulberry (and its very odd two-species grafting trick), the flowerless pagoda tree, and the drought-hero golden rain tree.

We had a proper "spotted in the wild" moment with The Florence pot and our faux boulders fooling absolutely everyone, celebrated our 40th anniversary with a visit from our local MP, and finally got our storm-damaged canopy back in action (RIP roof, long live roof).

The genuinely funny stat of the month: orange is now our best-selling planter colour, by a landslide, which nobody saw coming, least of all us. We also had a bit of fun asking whether AI can really design your garden (short answer: nicely, inaccurately), leaned into StablePave and our 5 Things series, and got the whole nursery outside for the solar eclipse, which turned out to be our best-performing content of the entire month! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

5 Things StablePave Can Do For Your Drive ๐Ÿš—

Gravel drives look great, right up until they don't, ruts, migration, weeds pushing through, and that constant top-up bag from the boot of the car. StablePave stabilisation panels sit underneath and change all of that. Here's what they actually do.

1. No Shingle Migration
Every stone stays exactly where it's placed. The honeycomb structure locks gravel in position, so no more stones scattered across the lawn, drifting into flower beds, or gradually thinning out at the edges of your drive. What you lay is what stays.

2. W**d Control
A permeable membrane beneath the panels blocks weeds from pushing up through your gravel, without blocking drainage. No more strimming or spot-treating between the stones just to keep things looking tidy.

3. No Visible Gridlines
Once your gravel's down, the panels themselves disappear from view completely. No plastic edges peeking through, no obvious grid pattern, just a clean, natural gravel finish with none of the give-away signs of what's holding it together underneath.

4. Rake Leaves Without Disturbance
Autumn's coming, and yes, you can still rake. The panels sit firmly below the gravel layer, so a normal rake glides over the surface without dragging up the sub-base or disturbing the stones underneath. Tidy leaves, undisturbed drive.

5. Load Bearing
Don't let the lightweight look fool you. StablePave is rated to bear 400 tonnes per square metre, more than enough for the family car, a caravan, or a delivery truck pulling right up to your door.

Beautiful gravel, structurally sound, and built to actually last. Come and talk to us about specifying it for your next project.

๐ŸŒณ Tree of the Week: Koelreuteria paniculata - the Golden Rain Tree

"This is a tree that genuinely thrives where others struggle," says Don. And in a Surrey summer like the ones we're getting used to, that's exactly the recommendation worth having.

"It's the soil story that really explains it," he continues. "In the wild, this tree grows in hot, dry regions with poor, free-draining soil. Plant it in sandy or chalky ground, exactly the kind you get on our greensand ridge, and after the first year it barely needs watering at all. It's genuinely looking after itself."

There's a catch though, and Don's clear about it. "The one thing it won't forgive is heavy clay or waterlogging. Drainage isn't optional here, if your soil's on the heavy side, improve it properly before you plant, or choose something else."

What sold him on it, beyond the drought tolerance, is how hard it works across the calendar. "Bronze-pink new growth in spring, big airy panicles of yellow flowers all through summer that the bees genuinely love, then those papery lantern seed pods ripening pink through autumn and hanging on well into winter. It's not a three-week wonder, it earns its place every single month."

At 8 to 10 metres and slow-growing, Don also flags it as a proper option for smaller gardens. "You get a genuine specimen tree without it swallowing the whole plot."

Come and stand next to a mature one, photos really don't do the seed pods justice.

Guess Our Best-Selling Planter Colour This Year ๐Ÿค”
Go on, guess. Most people say sage green. Or classic black. Maybe a nice weathered terracotta, safe, natural, the colour you'd expect a garden centre to sell.
Nope.
It's orange. By a landslide. Not muted, not dusty, proper zingy orange. We didn't see it coming either, and we sell the things.
We genuinely don't have a tidy explanation for why. Maybe it's a reaction against years of "safe" garden palettes. Maybe it's just that bold colour against green foliage does something neutral pots can't. Whatever it is, we've made more of these this year than any other colour, and the requests keep coming.
Turns out we're not the only ones thinking about it. Comedian Ivo Graham has been talking up his current tour aptly titled Orange Crush, which feels like the universe backing us up on this one.
We don't fully know why orange has had this moment, bold, warm, impossible to ignore against greenery, maybe. What we do know is we've made an awful lot of these this year, and we're not remotely tired of it yet.
