One of my absolute favourite jobs is building wildlife ponds. We dug this out with several levels, shelves, a deep end for frogs to dive to and a shallow beach so it’s safe for all wildlife to access.

We used about half captured rainwater to fill it and half tap water that we dechlorinated. Planted up with a lovely selection of mostly native ferns and a few other plants that will provide cover for wildlife at the waters edge. Just a few native pond plants added to get the pond going and one excited customer looking forward to a shopping trip for more pond plants very soon!

Met one of my heroes today! Dave Goulson, the insect guru, writes in such a captivating and mind blowing way about the wildlife in your garden. We often go quiet on our social media this time of year because the gardens are all absolutely full on and every minute is packed with gardening, watering, plant shopping, more watering, designing and drawing, trying to phone everyone back, watering again ….. finally got round to cleaning my tools this evening for the first time since possibly Spring! I love how Teasel captures little pools of rainwater. Such a magnificent plant. A watering hole for insects and small birds and and later irresistible seed feast for goldfinches through the winter.
