The importance of flushing heating systems can often be overlooked as an extra expense.

The reality is if not carried out with any new boiler installed the expense will eventually mean major failure and loss of efficiency.

This was just a small system but amazed by how much was collected.

Thanks to Ashley Stokes and the team at the Renewable Store for a couple of great days training on the Austrian 🇦🇹 Heliotherm heat pumps.

Really looking forward to fitting one in the real world to see how they perform.

Scop of 5 and above seem the norm on these units if installed, designed and commissioned correctly.

Not quite finished this heat pump installation over on the Calthorpe Estate in Birmingham but we did get it up and running for the weekend.

Just a small zone of UFH to install and a new hot feed to supply a redundant gravity shower and a bit of lagging to do, oh and connect the OEM so everyone can see how this performs.

Should be finished by Tuesday next week as so far this job has taken 16 man days with another 4 to go.

I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of being responsible for everything on this job including digging 🥵🥵 the trench for the underground pipe work and know every aspect of this heat pumps performance will lie solely with me and the team.

Another Heat Geek design with a minimum guaranteed efficiency of 450% ✅.

Vaillant Arotherm plus 5kw with active cooling✅

Flow supplies underground pre insulated pipe run of 15m to remote locate the heat pump✅

All UFH to run on open loop with UFH to be fully installed downstairs following kitchen extension in spring 2027✅

New Vaillant 300 litre Unistor pure heat pump cylinder ✅

New Sensocomfort controller and outdoor sensor all hardwired at customer request ✅

My Vaillant Gateway for internet app control ✅

New 450 litre power tank with variable speed pump upto 80 litres per minute (pipe size dependent) ✅

New cold supply to allow 90% of all water draw offs to be through the power tank ✅

Open energy monitor to accurately track performance ✅

Smart grid enabled through the new Vaillant AI interface to connect to the Signergy battery storage system✅

Another fossil fuel gas boiler removed ( gas hob to follow with new kitchen extension)✅

New Hager fuse board fully Vaillant compliant ✅

So much work gone into this project for a fantastic customer who really is trying to get this home to the best possible standards of comfort and running costs, MVHR by throughout also.

Another great team effort with my main man Adam grafting as always and doing a lovely job with the pipe work and insulation.

Nat the apprentice for getting on with all the jobs that need doing if not necessarily as enjoyable as doing pipe work.

Big shout out to the team at Maisum Renewables Lee Tapping getting Sean and Ivan on the case to help get this over the line.

Really looking forward to watching the performance over the next 12 months.

Well what a week that’s been, a first for me and Adam digging a 15m long trench to bury pipe work to remote locate a heat pump over in Harbourne.

Really was a slog but very rewarding as it’s proper graft having to hand dig it all out then put the pipe in which considering it was 180mm duct was more flexible that I expected and went it first time.

All slabs relaid and floors cemented plus heat pump coffins installed ready for next weeks installation.

As always it’s a Vaillant Arotherm plus 5kw in anthracite with active cooling built in, 300 litre Vaillant cylinder with power tank. Also adding and extra room of UFH upstairs using the pre routed caberdek floor.

This system will be on and will be my 3rd on the platform. Heat Geek 450% minimum guaranteed SCOP so hoping to get close to 500% with underfloor and MVHR with a heat loss of 4.77kw.

Can’t wait to get it up and running next week.

Well that’s our first Vaillant Arotherm plus in the new Anthracite finish, with new interface.

Like everything new there is always a little bit of figuring things out like all the plugs that need plugging in and what they do, note to anyone to make sure you plug in S20 with the link in or you get nothing but standby mode.

First time I’ve set up the active cooling as per Heat Geek guidance with a house full of radiators, so will be interesting to see how it helps cool a property down.

Apart from that the interface to the main HIU takes a bit of navigation to get used to where to find readings for commission etc, but like I say once you’ve done the first one things become clearer.

Thanks as always to the team Adam and Nat for plugging away in the heat and Dave from Lloyd electrical (you owe me one)☝️.

Zero disrupt done inside two days with no cylinder upgrade and keeping the system vented.

Minimum guaranteed efficiency of 345% at max flow temp of 54c and hot water store temperature of 48c.
