After snapping a few chalk lines here I am applying the fine coachlining to the Victorian Coach. This is with an ox hair liner. The corners will then be done with a shorter signwriting brush. There are miles of lines on these older liveries. They really did know how to make things look pretty back then!

I have recently completed the lining and lettering on this Dean 4-Wheel Brake Third for Didcot Railway Centre. All lettering is 23.5ct gold leaf. I think there is a few miles of lining on this one! The GWR monograms are transfers made by Endon Valley Custom Decals. Prep and paintwork was completed by John Plant of the carriage and wagon department. After I had finished my work Varnishing was carried out by Harry Jones. A nice joint project to be a part of. All completed using Craftmaster Paints 🖌️

Something a bit smaller this time. These are parts painted and lined for a 2” Burrell agricultural assembled from a set of Steam Traction World kits. The parts were etch primed, sprayed in 2k paint and all lined by hand. All in authentic Burrell colours. To give you an idea of scale the yellow fine lines are 0.012” or 0.30mm thick!

I spent a week at The Watercress Line in January lining out and varnishing their Ivatt tank 41312. All the prep work and painting was excellently carried out by Alex Luckham which meant that when I arrived a few chalk lines were pinged and out came the lining brushes. Always enjoy working with the guys at Ropley MPD.

First job of 2026 was a trip down to the Dean Forest Railway to line and letter Austerity ‘Rennes’ for Western Steam engineering. I think you’ll agree they have done a stunning job of the paintwork. All carried out with Craftmaster Paints.

At the end of last year I painted this rare 5” gauge K3. All the parts were supplied to me in bare metal then etch primed and sprayed in automotive 2k. The engine was then lined out by hand and transfers applied.

Sorry for the lack of updates. This summer has been super busy and flown by. I’m back at Didcot Railway Centre this week working for Didcot Locomotive Department lining and lettering the 4000 gallon tender to go back behind Pendennis Castle. The lettering will be in gold leaf either side of the Great Western garter crest. Watch this space for some pictures of the completed job
