So this gathered momentum and is actually happening.

I thought the people closest to me would say don't do it, but turns out they all think I'm mad anyway.

In Memory of my dad and father in law who both left us far to early due to heart conditions.

Had the opportunity to drag the wife and kids around (actually my wife's idea).

What a place, if you have any interest in how these historic buildings were built, this is the place to go.

Having never been completed, you can see the many layers of work that are involved, from the stone and brick work, lime-based coats, and the glass like finish on Lime top coat.

A room that stood out to me was the game larder, we visited on a hot day and it was still the coolest room in the building, even back then they knew how important building ventilation was and how to use it effectively, something that has been lost in construction these days.

Rear extension seemed to be lacking cement. And no lintels above doors and windows on the side, which isn't uncommon for the age of the original house. Full repoint to the rear and lintels installed on the side.

Beware of taking advice from someone who’s trying to sell you something.

With the rise of ready-mix products and “quick fix” solutions, there are a lot of materials on the market that simply don’t perform as they should — especially in older or character properties.

At Cotswold Hare, our approach is built on more than just years on the tools. It’s backed by continuous learning — courses, CPDs, and time spent (both in rooms and on Zoom) with architects, structural engineers, and design specialists. We work closely with the people developing products that are genuinely improving how homes perform and feel.

Don’t trust the line: “that’s how we’ve always done it.”
Generations of doing something wrong doesn’t make it right.

This Oriel Window was coming away from the main house. The client wanted to replace it with a flush window. Once we removed the Oriel, it was concrete blocks behind. So we found a solution with an oak porch to cover the blocks and extra protection for the timber window.
