Stump Grinder Course Success!

We were delighted to welcome the team from Chop & Chip to Devon Land Skills last week for a LANTRA Award Stump Grinder course.

A great day of practical, hands-on training with plenty of opportunities to develop confidence and competence using stump grinding equipment safely and effectively.

The team successfully completed both the training and assessment, demonstrating a great attitude, strong practical skills, and a commitment to safe working practices throughout.

It's always rewarding to work with experienced professionals who are investing in their skills and continuing their professional development.

Expanding Our Training Provision

We're pleased to share that Martin has successfully completed his Technical Evaluation with Arbor Venture Ltd, under the guidance of John Trenchard.

This achievement enables Martin to deliver and assess LANTRA Awards qualifications in:
Felling & Processing Trees Over 380mm
Individual Windblown Trees

These are valuable additions to Martin's existing skill set and further strengthen the range of specialist forestry training available through Devon Land Skills.

A big thank you to John at Arbor Venture for his support throughout the evaluation process.

We're looking forward to offering these qualifications in the near future and helping learners develop the advanced skills required to work safely and confidently in more challenging forestry environments.

Chainsaw Course Completed in the Sunshine ☀️

Earlier this week we delivered a successful LANTRA Award course in:
Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross-cutting, Basic Felling of Trees up to 200mm.

We were pleased to welcome members of the grounds staff from Stover School to our Devon venue — a hardworking and skilled team who stayed focused and professional throughout.

The warm weather certainly added to the challenge at times, but with plenty of water breaks and good spirits all round, it was a great few days of learning and sharpening skills.

Well done to everyone involved — great effort and a brilliant result all round.

Chainsaw Refresher Success!

Last week we delivered a successful LANTRA Refresher Course in Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross-cutting, Felling & Processing Trees up to 380mm.

A great group of experienced foresters joined us at our Devon venue to sharpen their skills, refresh best practice, and stay up to date with safety and industry standards.

Fantastic effort all round — well done to everyone who took part!

Brushcutter Course Success!

Earlier this week we delivered a successful LANTRA Award Brushcutter & Trimmer course here at Devon Land Skills with all learners completing the training and assessments to a high standard.

Plenty of hands-on practice, expert instruction, and a great result!

We also used high-quality fuel from to support machine care and keeping everything running cleanly throughout.

Well done! A great effort!

Chainsaw Maintenance Pays Off!

We recently travelled to the brilliant team at Oak to deliver a Chainsaw Maintenance & Crosscutting Refresher on-site at their premises.

The candidate used a Stihl 046—still going strong after more than 27 years!
Thanks to regular care and proper maintenance, this classic saw is not just surviving, it's thriving.

It's a great reminder that with the right upkeep, even older machines can deliver excellent performance for decades. Whether you're working in forestry or managing your own land, routine maintenance means safer, more efficient, and longer-lasting tools.
