Hobbans Timberworks

Hobbans Timberworks Our green oak frames are jointed using traditional and time-proven methods. Then we dismantle the structures and transport them to site for final assembly.

They are prefabricated in our workshop, where all the joints are tried for fit, numbered, and the frame partially assembled. All the joints are pegged with oak pegs to lock them together. This of course means that if it were ever required the pegs could be knocked out, and the frame disassembled and moved to another site or altered for an alternative use. We like to construct even basic frames in

a way that ensures that they will withstand the tests of time. The use of jowl posts and braces supporting the wall plates and tie beams give strength and longevity. Our wall studs are all morticed and tenoned to the plates, and all our joints are pegged. The tie beams are morticed and tenoned to the jowl posts and dove-tailed into the wall plates in the traditional way. Our curved braces are cut from specially selected curved timbers, something which the large machine-producing framing companies cannot do. We also take on specialist joinery jobs - bridges, porches, special doors, windows, garden buildings - anything bespoke.
