Ding-ding… Vvvvvvshhh!
The first sound is a school bell. The second is traditional roofing material being cut — noise that can reach 100–110 dB, a level comparable to a jackhammer. Which one will the classroom hear?
That was one of the key questions when selecting a roofing solution for the renovation of St Paul’s Catholic School in Milton Keynes. The roofing work had to be completed without disrupting students’ learning during term-time.
That’s why a lightweight stone-coated metal roof by Metrotile was chosen. The tiles can be dry-cut with significantly less noise than wet cutting. According to Sean Carney of contractor Sean Works Ltd: “The tiles are clean and easy to cut without water or additional PPE, while the reduced cutting noise is a major benefit on occupied sites like schools.”
