🌿✂️ **Thinking of cutting your hedges this spring? Read this first . . .

As the weather warms up, many of us head into the garden to tidy up hedges and trees. But did you know there are important rules in place to protect wildlife during the nesting season? 🐦

In the UK, under the **Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981**, it is an offence to intentionally damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built.

Because of this, hedge cutting is **generally avoided between March and August**, when birds are most likely to be nesting. During this time, trimming hedges without checking could disturb nests and harm wildlife.

✅ what should we do ?

* Always **check hedges or trees carefully for nests** before cutting.
* If you find an active nest, **leave the hedge alone until the chicks have fledged**.
* If possible, **delay major hedge cutting until late summer or autumn**.
