A different type of post to usual, but as you know we are a family business and we like to celebrate when our family owned, local, small business do well!

Our friends over at Site Blasting Services have today gained their ISO certifications.

They have a large in house facility with a 14mx6m blast room in Old Whittington and they also provide mobile on site blasting and coatings. Serving industries including construction, marine, manufacturing, and oil and gas.

It has been a long 5 weeks but Sebastian no longer has a broken leg and is back driving again!

Thank you to our commercial and domestic clients for your patience whilst we navigated this time. Being on site in high vis and steel toe caps was not on my bingo card for this year, learning to measure up and look at levels, drainage and what not. It has been an experience.

He is now back on his feet and I can resume my office duties, with a touch of sadness as I found the past few weeks really quite interesting. Will Estimator be my future job title? Who knows!

P.S This isn't what Sebastian actually looks like, it was how AI made him based on my dodgy description of a grey haired 40 something year old in high vis, blue chinos and a broken leg! 😂

We started prep work on this drive at the end of last year, and completed the resin layer now the better weather is here. I love this drive, and the photo doesn't do it justice. If you choose resin, it doesn't mean you can't begin your prep work in the winter months. Some people choose to do this for example if they have gravel drives, or muddied areas from building works and during those winter months get fed up of traipsing dirt into their house (especially if they have had new flooring!)
So we can start the prep, do the edgings, any flower bed gravel, the first tarmac course, this gives you a clean drive, and in this case an extended drive for multiple cars in time for Christmas! We can then return in the Spring and Summer to lay the resin.

And just like that our Easter break is finished; our crews are back on the roads and our estimators are back in. Any queries will be dealt with as soon as possible and appointments made to see you.

I hope, for any of you parents out there, that your first week of the Easter holidays has brought fun and hopefully some moments of peace. Here's to the next week, filled with joy, moments to yourself to regroup, and minimal meltdowns/sibling squabbles!

For us, we (Seb, me and the kids) are due back from the South East coast on Saturday where we will have hopefully had some sunshine, lots of sea air, fish and chips galore, and won enough tickets on the arcades for more than 2 sweets each and a bouncy ball that we will lose as soon as we leave the arcades!

Set up in 1992 by Philip and Heather, Johnson Surfacing Ltd has now been in business for 34 years.

Our longest serving employee has been with us an incredible 27 years and our second longest serving employee is celebrating 23 years with us!

Despite being in his 70s (don't tell him I told you) Philip is still busy here at Johnson Surfacing, and was joined 18 years ago by his Son Sebastian. Over the years you may have met them as they are our estimators who work with domestic and commercial clients.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, and who continue to choose us, recommend us, and write reviews for us, as well as those returning clients both in businesses, and those of you who have had us return to your new homes to do drives again.

Here's to the next 34, when Sebastian and I will be in our 70s and perhaps our Son and Daughter will have taken control!

Don't forget the clocks 'spring' forward this weekend, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
This post is also to let you know that Johnson Surfacing is now closed for our annual Easter shut down. This means our crews are having a well earned rest as are our estimators (and me!) Our phones and emails will be answered Tuesday 31st March to Thursday 2nd April.

As a small family owned and family run business, we like to support other small, family, and where possible, local, businesses.

Our working relationship with aGeek started a couple of years ago after being let down by our then IT provider who were a big firm who didn't understand our needs as a small business.

Having previously gotten to know aGeek through their expertise in domestic electrical repair (an ancient DVD player connected to a surround sound, and a broken tablet courtesy of a 2 year old) we also knew they had expanded into serving businesses for everything I.T.

A couple of meetings later, we were signed up and swapped over.

We highly recommend them to everyone we meet; whether it is for business I.T support or signposting all and sundry to their shop on West Bars roundabout for Console, Apple iMac, Macbook, PC, Laptop, Mobile or electronics repair.

When I am looking for a business to carry out work for me at home, reviews/ratings is one of the first things I look at. But these days you can't take these star ratings at face value.

I recently came across a business page with thousands of followers despite only being set up less than a year. Not only that but they had 5 star reviews, hundreds of them. When I delved deeper, I discovered the signs of them being purchased or automated.

Here are some of the signs of a scam when it comes to reviews:
❌Reviews posted in short bursts of time
❌Repetitive wording or identical/copy and paste phrasing
❌Profiles with no photos, posts or recent creation dates
❌Overly positive (or overly negative) with no detail

Make sure to verify the business before trusting what you see:
☑️Check multiple review platforms
☑️Don't just trust star ratings, look deeper into the reviews, look for details and balanced reviews

Fake engagement is becoming more common but a few quick checks can help you find a genuine business.
