Ask most site managers where a programme loses time and they'll point to the start. Late access, late drawings, late materials.

A lot of it is lost at the back end.

Cable pulling, terminations and testing sit late in the sequence. When earlier trades overrun, the electrical tasks don't get any bigger, but the time available for them shrinks. A task planned for two weeks gets squeezed into one, with the same sign-off requirements at the end.

That's when capacity becomes the problem. The in-house team is already stretched across other packages, and there's no float left to absorb the delay.

The contractors who handle this well tend to do one thing early. They identify which tasks are most exposed to being squeezed and line up specialist support before they need it, not after the programme has slipped.

It's a small piece of planning that protects a much bigger date.

When a cable pulling task is running behind, the first call usually sounds the same: we need a team on site as soon as possible.

That's a fair start. But the quicker we get a clear picture of the task, the quicker we can get people on site.

These five details make the biggest difference:
1. Cable types and quantities. Sizes, cores, drum lengths and the number of runs.
2. Routes and access. Where the containment is, how long the pulls are, and any restricted areas.
3. Containment status. Installed and ready, or still being finished.
4. Programme window. The dates the task has to fit into, and what follows it.
5. Termination and testing requirements. Who is responsible, and what sign-off is needed.

None of this needs to be a formal document. A short email and a few photos is often enough to get moving.

Commercial Electrical Support, Done Properly

We were brought in at short notice by our principal contractor, AIC Integrated Systems, to provide additional labour and specialist electrical services on this project in Ellesmere Port.

Project Duration: Approximately 1 month–6 weeks

Our scope on this project included:
High-Level Containment
Cable tray
Manufacture and installation of unistrut framework
High-Level Lighting Installation
Cable Pulling
LV Cable Terminations

Despite being brought onto the project at short notice, our team mobilised quickly and delivered the specialist electrical labour and support required to maintain progress on site. We ensured all works were completed efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

This project highlights our capability to respond rapidly and provide specialist electrical installation services whenever and wherever they are needed.

More of our work lately has come from principal contractors and larger electrical contractors calling us in for a specific task, cable pulling, containment, terminations, temporary power, rather than the full job.

It's a different kind of call. Less about design and specification, more about picking up a task that needs doing properly and needs it done to someone else's programme.

It suits us well. Turn up, do the specific job in front of us to a high standard, and get off site without holding anyone up.

Electrical mistakes at design stage are the most expensive kind. They're the ones that have to be undone. 🛠️

Underspecified capacity. Boards in the wrong location. Cable routes that don't account for future access. None of it is unusual. All of it is avoidable, and all of it costs far more to fix after the build than it would have cost to get right at the start.

Get your electrical contractor involved early. It's the decision that makes the biggest difference.
