Topography can become a constraint, a construction problem or the beginning of a solution.

Springmere Views sits beyond the established settlement, beside ancient woodland and on a steeply sloping site.

The obvious response might have been to fight the levels. Instead, we worked with them.

The slope allowed us to create six homes with split level interiors, more interesting movement through the spaces and elevated views across the surrounding landscape.

For a developer project, architecture is only one part of the picture. Planning, buildability, cost, value and construction phasing all need to work together. Each decision affects the next.

We find that balance one of the most interesting and rewarding parts of the process: allowing practical and commercial considerations to be woven into the design without losing the quality of the place.

Nothing here was left to chance, and it shows.

HALO Architects turns 7.

Looking back, we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey so far. Every client, consultant, contractor and collaborator has helped shape who we are today.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us and supported us over the past 7 years. We genuinely wouldn’t be here without you.

And to everyone we’ll work with in the years ahead, we look forward to meeting you. We believe the best projects are built together.

The last 7 years have laid the foundations. We can’t wait to see what the next 7 bring.

How should a place make people feel?

Design is a deeply personal process, yet it is also highly collaborative. Every project is shaped by conversations, ideas, constraints, ambitions and countless decisions along the way.

One of the questions we often return to is how a place should make people feel.

This question shaped our proposals for Yateley Lakes Hotel and Spa.

The ambition was never simply to create a building within a landscape, but a place where architecture, water, planting, light and nature work together to create an atmosphere of wellbeing.

Conceived as a series of planted terraces cascading towards the Blackwater River, the building dissolves into its setting. Not a single object, but a sequence of green layers woven into the site.
A place to slow down. To reconnect with nature. To step away from the demands of everyday life.

Every design decision followed from that idea.
