There's a new member of the C&D team... and it has a rather large cutting deck.

We've expanded!

As well as pest control and wildlife management, C&D can now help with grounds maintenance too.

We've invested in a ride-on mower, hedge trimmer, strimmer, leaf blower and all the other kit we need to keep larger gardens, grounds and commercial sites under control.

So if the grass is getting away from you, the hedges are looking decidedly enthusiastic or you have a larger site that needs regular maintenance, give us a shout.

Same C&D. Just with more machinery.

The summer pest jobs are starting to wind down and the autumn ones are picking up.

It's been another busy few months for the team, with everything from wasps and insects to rodents, proofing and plenty of jobs in between.

A big thank you to everyone who's recommended us, called us out, shared our posts or simply followed along.

A little reminder about outdoor bins as we head into autumn.

We tend to think of bin problems as a summer issue because of flies and smells.

But accessible food waste can attract rodents at any time of year.

Keep lids properly closed, avoid overfilling bins and clean up any spilled food around the storage area.

Simple things, but they really do help.

The heating isn't even on yet... but your loft might already be looking quite attractive to rodents.

Warm.
Dry.
Quiet.
Plenty of hiding places.

It doesn't take much for a loft or roof space to become somewhere rodents decide they'd quite like to stay.

If you're heading into autumn with a loft that's full of boxes and belongings, have a quick look around before everything gets tucked away for winter.

It's much easier to spot signs when you can actually see the floor!

Anyone else noticing the evenings getting darker earlier?

It's one of those little signs that autumn is definitely on the way.

For us, it also means starting to think more about the jobs that come with cooler weather.

So if you've got a loft, garage or outbuilding that's been left untouched all summer, now's a good time to give it a quick check.

You might even find what you're looking for.

A job that doesn't look like much can make a big difference.

Sometimes pest control involves a lot more than treating the immediate problem.

It might be clearing an access route, identifying where something is getting in, improving storage or making a few small changes around a property.

None of it is particularly glamorous.

But stopping the problem coming back?

That's the bit that matters.

A quiet property isn't necessarily an empty property.

Empty buildings, holiday lets, storage units and unused outbuildings can all develop pest problems without anyone noticing.

No regular foot traffic.
No one opening cupboards.
No one noticing a strange smell.
No one hearing scratching at night.

If you manage a property that's going to be empty for a period of time, it's worth including pest checks as part of the routine.

A problem found early is much easier to deal with than one that's had several weeks to develop unnoticed.

Before filling it in, have a look at what's actually using it.

Burrows can belong to a number of different animals, and they're not all going to be dealt with in the same way.

Look for signs around the entrance, tracks, droppings and other activity.

And if you're not sure, don't just start filling holes in at random.

Knowing what you're dealing with first is always the better approach.

It's not simply because rats and mice suddenly appear when September arrives.

They're around throughout the year.

But as the weather gets cooler, buildings become more attractive because they offer something very important...

Shelter.

Add an easy source of food and water and you've got a pretty appealing place to spend the winter.

That's why autumn is a good time to look at the outside of your property rather than waiting until you hear scratching indoors.

Autumn cleaning doesn't just mean cleaning the house.

When you're having a big clear-out, don't forget the less glamorous areas.

Garages.
Sheds.
Outbuildings.
Lofts.

Getting rid of old cardboard, rubbish and clutter gives you a chance to spot signs of pest activity that might otherwise go unnoticed.

And let's be honest...

If you've been avoiding the shed since March, this is probably your sign to go in there.
