We’re currently working on an interesting project at a property near Llanishen, upgrading a water supply system that’s around 100 years old.

As a temporary measure, we’ve connected the existing spring pump to this water tank and installed a float switch, allowing the tank to automatically top itself up as the water level drops.

This keeps the property supplied while we prepare for the next stage of the project — installing a new pump and filtration system to bring the setup right up to date.

A great example of combining an old, established water source with modern controls and equipment to create a much more reliable system.

This dielectric gel helps protect the connection and gives it an IP68 rating, meaning it can be permanently submerged in water when installed correctly.

Why RCD Protection Matters

Many homes still have older fuse boards that offer very limited protection compared to modern consumer units.

One of the biggest safety upgrades available today is RCD protection. RCDs (Residual Current Devices) constantly monitor the electrical current in your home and will shut the power off in milliseconds if they detect a fault or imbalance. This can prevent serious electric shocks and significantly reduce the risk of electrical fires.

We’re coming to the end of the first fix at this property in Llangibby, near Usk.

As part of the installation, we’re fitting Theben LUXORliving to bring the home’s lighting, blinds and heating together into one smart control system.

By planning and wiring everything correctly at first-fix stage, the system can be integrated neatly throughout the property and set up to give the customer simple, convenient control once the project is complete.
