If it has been 3 months or more since your horse last had a de-worming treatment, then it is recommended that your horse have a worm egg count carried out.

At Target Worm Counts, we can carry out these worm counts for you, either by taking your samples by post, or by coming to your yard and analysing the samples on site the same day.

After your samples have been analysed you will be provided with a full results report, an explanation of the results, and recommendations for treatment. We will also be able to develop a full worming schedule for you and your horse, so you always know what your next step in responsible worming is!

Targeted treatment aided by worm egg counts can help to decrease the use of de-worming products by 50% and save you money whilst combatting resistance.

With no new worming products likely to be on the market any time soon it is crucial that we stop the spread of resistance to the products we have got.

Here at Target Worm Counts we offer yard visits to analyse your horses worm egg counts there and then, with results available straight away! We also offer a postal service for less than 5 samples with a quick service promised every time!

Discounts for multiple horses offered!

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions or to book your worm egg counts today!

THIS is why it is so important to routinely use EquiSal Tapeworm testing to determine if your horse’s worm control programme is effective.

This filly had been treated with a dewormer containing praziquantel after presenting with mild colic. Just 3 days after treatment the filly suffered severe abdominal crisis and, while undergoing surgery, was found to have a huge live tapeworm burden causing her gut to intussuscept. Unfortunately the filly didn’t survive this.

The key message is “don’t leave tapeworm control to chance” and to “know what you are dealing with”. Routine testing will identify horses requiring treatment and follow up tests will determine if the treatment was effective or whether additional doses are required. This strategy also ensures high egg shedding horses are correctly managed which reduces field contamination.

Order your test – veterinary practices or SQPs sell the EquiSal saliva collection kit and samples are sent to our high throughput laboratory for testing. Results are reported to you through your vet or SQP along with deworming advice as required.
