Summer 26 🌾

We started the season getting the hay and haylage wrapped up, before moving straight into combining and baling with the dry and very hot conditions, everything came together incredibly quickly.

It’s been a proper team effort from start to finish. Very early mornings, long days combining and late nights baling and chasing bales, with everyone putting the hours in to keep things moving and get the job done.

A huge thank you to everyone who put in the hard work throughout Harvest.

🌾 When the Heat Hits Farming Hard ☀️

The recent heatwaves may have brought plenty of sunshine, but for British agriculture, the prolonged hot and dry weather has created some very challenging conditions.

England and Wales provisionally experienced their driest July on record this year, following a summer of exceptional temperatures and prolonged periods with very little rainfall.

For farmers, the effects can be felt right across the farm. Dry soils and a lack of moisture can restrict crop growth and reduce yields, while grass growth can suffer, putting additional pressure on livestock feed. The exceptionally dry conditions have also increased the risk of wildfires across farmland and the wider countryside.

Early harvest figures are already highlighting some of the impact, with average wheat yields estimated at 6.8 tonnes per hectare, compared with the 10-year average of 7.9 tonnes per hectare.

Recent rainfall has been a welcome sight for many, but after such a prolonged dry period, the effects won't disappear overnight.

At King Agriculture, farming is at the heart of what we do, and we understand just how much the weather can shape an entire season. Here's hoping the months ahead bring the conditions British farmers need. 🌱🚜
