Planning approval officially granted for this striking countryside transformation at Wortheal House!

This extensive remodelling and extension project reimagines an existing rural dwelling as a calm, contemporary family home deeply connected to its landscape setting.

With approval now secured, the design introduces a dramatic standing seam roof form, recessed dormers, natural stone and textured render, all balanced with warm detailing and expansive glazing that frames views across the countryside.

Inside, open-plan living spaces, a double-height entrance void and carefully curated sightlines create a strong relationship between architecture, light and nature, delivering a home that feels both refined and grounded in its surroundings.

The project was designed and developed using immersive 3D modelling, allowing the spaces, proportions and experience to be explored and refined from the earliest stages of the design process.

Walnut House - interiors shaped around light, flow and everyday family life.

The internal layout has been carefully reworked to create a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space at the heart of the home, with quieter rooms arranged around it for balance and flexibility.

Natural light, warm timber tones, dark accents and layered textures help create a calm, contemporary interior that feels refined but comfortable, a home designed for real daily living, not just the photograph.

A full transformation, inside and out.

Walnut House - a full transformation of a tired suburban home into a calm, contemporary family space.

By retaining the original form and rebalancing the proportions, the design brings clarity and cohesion to the frontage. A restrained palette of cladding, render and dark-framed glazing creates a confident rhythm, anchored by a full-height gable window that draws light deep into the plan.

Inside, the layout is reworked around openness, flow and connection, placing a generous kitchen and dining space at the heart of the home, with quieter, more intimate spaces wrapped around it.

A considered redesign that feels both rooted and refreshingly new.

A brilliant week with our work experience student, Ninon 👏

Tasked with designing a contemporary home for her chosen celebrity client, Olivia Rodrigo, she’s taken this from brief, to sketches, to a fully realised design with confidence and creativity beyond her years. The result? A bold, beautifully considered scheme packed with personality.

Alongside the studio work, Ninon joined us on client design reviews, site visits and construction meetings, getting a real insight into how architecture moves from idea to reality.

We’re incredibly proud of what she’s achieved in just one week, and excited to see where her journey in architecture takes her next.

A little slice of calm carved out of history.

As part of a wider renovation of a former village post office building, this once narrow, pokey bathroom has been completely reimagined. Through careful internal structural alterations, we’ve more than doubled its width, creating a space that feels generous, grounded, and quietly luxurious.

All modern finishes were stripped back to reveal the original stonework, now beautifully repointed in breathable lime. Paired with warm timber floors, aged copper, and soft, muted tones, the result is a bathroom that feels both rooted in its past and refined for modern living.

Proof that great design doesn’t just transform spaces, it reveals what was always meant to be there.

Friday Sneak peek…

Early-stage sketching ahead of a pre-application submission for a cluster of family homes, carefully arranged to sit lightly within their setting.

Balancing contemporary living with a familiar, rural language - exploring form, rhythm and green space across the site.

This stage is all about testing ideas: calm architecture, rooted in the local vernacular, with generous green space woven throughout the site.

Simple, considered, and quietly confident.

More to come… 🌿

Architecture begins as a question on paper.

A sketch lets us slow down, explore options and understand how a building might feel before we decide how it will be built. Proportions are tested, structure is revealed, and small details - the overhang of a roof, the alignment of a beam, the framing of a view start to guide the whole design.

By the time the project reaches site, those early conversations are embedded in the fabric of the building, turning ideas into spaces you can thrive in.

For us, design doesn’t stop once planning permission is granted.

In fact… that’s when it really gets interesting.

Following approval comes the detailed design phase, where we obsess (happily) over junctions, architectural details, material interfaces, tolerances, and construction sequencing.

Charred timber soffits, stone reveals, steelwork alignments, flush frames… every line matters.

Because good architectural design is only as good as how it’s built.

And the difference between “nice on paper” and “beautiful in real life” lives in the details.

As the saying goes… God is in the detail and we’re right there with Him, pen in hand.

A Contemporary Re-imagining of a Family Home

This project explores how a familiar suburban house can be carefully reshaped to meet the needs of modern family living. Our proposals retain the existing gabled form and scale of the dwelling, ensuring it sits comfortably within the established street scene, while introducing a refined contemporary language.

The architecture is articulated through a layered material palette of render, vertical timber cladding and metal roofing, breaking down the massing and adding depth to the façades. A fully glazed gable brings natural light deep into the heart of the home, animating the interior throughout the day.

At ground floor, open-plan kitchen and dining spaces connect directly to the garden, supported by a more intimate lounge and a generous double-height entrance hall. The first floor accommodates four bedrooms, including a calm master suite, all designed to maximise daylight, views and everyday practicality.

A measured intervention — respectful, contemporary, and tailored to family life.

✨ We’re thrilled to announce that planning permission has just been unanimously approved at Planning Committee! ✨

A huge milestone for this project and a fantastic result for our clients. We’re incredibly proud to see the scheme supported so positively and to now be able to move forward to the next stage.

Our design reimagines a dilapidated site with a bold yet carefully balanced new-build contemporary home.

The split mono-pitch roofs create a distinctive silhouette while breaking down the overall massing, and generous areas of full-height glazing flood the interiors with natural light and strengthen the connection to the surrounding landscape. A double-height entrance and sculptural staircase form the heart of the home, creating a strong sense of arrival.

Sustainability has been embedded from the outset, with integrated solar PV, air-source heat pumps, MVHR, green roofs and rainwater harvesting all playing a key role in delivering a high-performance, future-ready home. The architecture is complemented by a landscape-led approach that softens the building within its setting and enhances biodiversity.

A big thank you to the planning officers and committee members for their support, and to our clients for their trust and commitment throughout the design process. We can’t wait to bring this one to life.
