🚆💿☕ A little something different from us!

As many of you know, when we’re not busy decorating, Kirst and I love getting out and exploring Kent.

I’ve recently started a little passion project called The Kent Vinyl Rail Trail, combining a few of my favourite things — trains, vinyl records, exploring new places and supporting independent businesses!

The idea is simple: encourage people to hop on a train, discover independent record shops, enjoy a coffee, explore our lovely Kent towns and maybe find a few hidden gems along the way.

I’ve started putting together some vintage-style railway maps and station guides, and Kirst has already got involved finding lovely independent cafés to feature too! ☕😂

It’s very early days, but I’m really enjoying putting it all together and seeing where it goes.

I’d be really grateful if any of our customers, friends and followers who fancy something a little different would join the group and follow along. ❤️

There’s absolutely no selling involved, just a bit of fun, exploring Kent and hopefully supporting some fantastic local businesses.

A bold change for all three bathrooms 💙

We’ve recently finished redecorating three bathrooms for the same customer, taking every one of them from plain white to this gorgeous deep blue.

There was plenty of preparation needed before we could get anywhere near the paint, but what a difference the colour has made.

Taking the blue right across the walls and ceilings has completely changed the feel of the rooms and works beautifully with the patterned tiles and brass fittings.

We absolutely love it when a customer isn’t afraid of a bit of colour! 😍

What a transformation this one was! 🤍

Sometimes removing the old wallpaper reveals a little more than you bargained for… 😬

Once the paper came down, the walls and ceiling needed plenty of attention before we could even think about the finished look. Old coatings were scraped back, loose areas removed, everything thoroughly prepared, filled, sanded and sealed before decorating could begin.

We also stripped back the badly flaking door and woodwork and gave everything the preparation it needed before repainting.

The bedroom was then completely redecorated, finished with this lovely delicate floral feature wallpaper, while the en-suite got a much bolder look with this fantastic navy sea-life paper. 🐟🦞

Quite a difference from where we started!

A little Cornwall escape 🚆🌊

We’ve been a bit quiet on the personal posts lately, so here’s what we got up to on our latest adventure!

We swapped the paintbrushes for walking boots and headed down to Cornwall on the Night Riviera sleeper train from London to Penzance — something we’d wanted to do for ages.

We packed plenty into a couple of days: walked sections of the South West Coast Path, hired bikes to explore on two wheels, visited St Michael’s Mount, wandered around beautiful Mousehole, and jumped on the St Ives branch line for one of the prettiest little train journeys around.

Lots of walking, trains, buses, bikes, sea air, good food and probably far too many photos! 😂

We absolutely loved Cornwall and could quite happily have stayed a few more days, but it was back home and back to reality for us.

These little trips are such a good way for us to switch off from work for a couple of days, spend some time together and come back feeling refreshed.

Now the walking boots are away and the decorating gear is back out! 😂

Messages and enquiries are still very welcome, but replies may be a little slower than usual while we switch off and recharge.

A slightly different Monday for MKP today! 🚂🎨

Today we spent the day at the lovely Signal Box Café at Hollingbourne Station, giving their accessible toilet a complete colour change.

The existing white walls have been transformed with Preference Red, and what a difference it’s made. It’s such a rich, warm colour and works brilliantly alongside the dark green already used throughout this beautiful old railway building.

We volunteered our time for this one, so it was really nice to spend the day doing something for a local community café that we already enjoy visiting.

Plenty of awkward areas to get into — pipes, grab rails, fittings and some very high walls — although Kirst took “getting into the awkward bits” rather literally at one point! 😂

We were incredibly well looked after with tea, coffee and some rather good chocolate cake ☕🍰

A really enjoyable day, a lovely finished result and something a little different for us.

Not a bad Monday at all. ❤️🚂
