🧐 Did you know this about wasps?

Wasps aren’t actually able to eat solid food! Their narrow waist, that tiny connection between their head and abdomen makes it impossible. 🐝 Instead, they hunt insects 🐛 and bring them back to the nest to feed their larvae.

Here’s the clever part: the larvae digest the food and produce a sweet, sugary liquid 🍯 and that’s what the adult wasps live on!

But as summer goes on, the queen stops laying eggs, meaning fewer and fewer larvae… until there are none. With no larvae, the wasps lose their main food source and go searching for sugar elsewhere which is why they suddenly show up at your picnic, hovering over your juice or ice cream. 🧃🍦

Wasps are also very territorial. They’ll defend their nest and foraging areas if they feel threatened which is why those stings can seem so sudden and aggressive. ⚠️

Thanks to an early, warm season ☀️ this year, wasps are out in full force and wasp-related complaints are on the rise! Stay alert and cover those sweet drinks!

Don’t forget to call the professionals if you discover a nest.
