Since 2008 we have worked with main contractors and developers, such as Midas Construction, Stacey Construction, Bloor Homes, Alextoria Properties, JMS Construction and Mike Lock Construction. We also work for a number of private developers and one off builders. A contemporary take on a rural Somerset home.

This bespoke new build brings together local stone, Siberian larch and corrugated roofing, combining traditional materials with a more contemporary barn-inspired form.

Behind the finished exterior was a complete new-build project managed by our team, from groundworks and the on-site timber frame through to the final finishes and handover.

The home was also built with the future in mind, with attic trusses creating a loft space ready for conversion should the family ever need more room.

A closer look at this extensive renovation and extension project in Somerset.

Designed by REdsgn , the project created more generous living space and a separate annexe for guests, while ensuring the new additions blended naturally with the existing home.

Across the exterior, heritage aluminium windows and reclaimed roof tiles sit alongside larch posts, beams and featheredge cladding, with zinc cladding bringing a more contemporary finish to the single-storey extension.

We delivered Willowdene as a complete turn-key project while the homeowners lived offsite, managing each stage of the build and keeping them involved through regular meetings and real-time project scheduling.

Some projects are about much more than the building itself.

We first worked on this stone barn near Ilminster a few years ago, completing a conversion for the family. The second phase created a separate home for Granny, making the site work beautifully for multi-generational living.

Formerly used as horse stables, parts of the building were on the verge of falling down. We rebuilt where needed using original lias stone from the site and salvaged roof beams and rafters to retain its history and character.

A conversion rooted in the building’s past and created for the next chapter of family life.

After sharing a few glimpses behind the build, here’s another look at how Buckham Down is progressing.

From dramatic skies over the slate roof to the work happening inside, we’ve shared some of the journey behind this circa 500m² new build near Beaminster.

Now, under clear blue skies and surrounded by rolling Dorset countryside, you can really start to see the home taking its place within this incredible setting.

There’s plenty more to come, and we’re looking forward to sharing the next stages.

Behind the build at Buckham Down.

At this stage, the interior was still very much a work in progress, but the vision for one of the home’s key features was already beginning to emerge.

With incredible views across the rolling Dorset countryside, the design called for a large open fireplace to create an equally striking focal point inside the home.

It was also one of the more technically challenging elements of the build, requiring collaboration between the architect, structural engineers, HETAS engineers, specialist suppliers and our clients to bring the design together.

A glimpse at just how much work can sit behind one feature of a bespoke home.
