Meet Mava: Bob Primmer

This month's Meet Mava, we're shouting out Robert (Bob) Primmer, one of the founding partners of Primmer Olds, now trading as Mava Real Estate.

Bob established the business alongside David Olds in 1987 and, nearly four decades later, remains an invaluable part of the team as a consultant. With over 40 years' experience specialising in lease advisory and valuation work, Bob has acted as both an expert witness and arbitrator, while continuing to share his knowledge and mentor colleagues within our advisory team.

Outside of work, Bob is Chairman of the Trustees at Wilton Men's Shed and enjoys travelling around Europe, playing guitar and gardening.

A fun fact: "I opened the Quidhampton Meadowfest music festival near Salisbury and played to an audience of 12, which included 5 cows."🎸

Buying commercial property? Don't let VAT catch you out.

Many buyers assume commercial property purchases are VAT exempt, but that's not always the case.

If the seller has opted to tax, or the property is a new build, VAT may be payable. In some circumstances, a transaction can qualify as a Transfer of a Going Concern (TOGC), which can offer significant tax efficiencies and potentially reduce the SDLT burden.

Residential property is generally exempt from VAT, which can be beneficial when purchasing, but it also means VAT incurred on certain ownership costs may not be recoverable.

The VAT position on a property transaction can have a major impact on overall costs, so seeking professional tax advice at an early stage is essential.

Your first commercial property purchase
