Sparky Sukey

Sparky Sukey Brighton-based female sparky (domestic electrical installer) Hi there! So, I’ve already said I’m really reasonably priced. Want to know what that means?

I’m Sukey, a Brighton-based, affordable female sparky, and your new go-to person for small, electrical jobs and fixes in Brighton! A lot of the time, you won’t need a fully registered electrician for smaller jobs, but you do need a “competent person” – hopefully I can be that person for you! I come with the benefits of not being booked up for months and months on really huge commercial jobs, I’m r

eally reasonably priced, and I’ll happily do really small jobs that are really local to me (Hanover, Brighton)

I have C&G Level 3 qualifications in Part P Building Regs, and BS7671 (aka “the wiring regs”) and Level 2 Electrical Testing, so I know what I can and can’t do, and I’m OK to be let loose on your wiring. (If I’m not, I’ll let you know!)

I am – of course – fully insured; I have £2m of public liability cover, should the unthinkable happen. I’ll never over-commit to a job I’m not qualified to do: I’ll be upfront with you if I can’t do what needs doing. Some examples of things I am qualified to do:
✅ Change your light fittings, switches and sockets.
✅ Add extensions and new light fittings to an existing circuit
✅ Add extensions and new plug sockets to existing circuits (including in kitchens)
✅ Replace broken extractor fans in bathrooms
✅ Add or change an outdoor garden light
…and various other things – just ask! I have professional test equipment, and will test and certify minor electrical works, so you’re in safe hands. I’ve included a bit of information about pricing on my website here: https://sparkysukey.co.uk/pricing

Did you know that "socket protectors" are not only unnecessary, but dangerous?!

There's a long-running campaign to have them banned, so it's disappointing that has them for sale and advertised as things for the baby room in the 😳 (and I do ❤️ me a bit of Lidl normally!)

UK sockets are full of safety features which are disabled by these unregulated bits of tat, which actually introduce a new risk of shock and fire! So don't buy them, bin them!

And don't just take my word for it - take the advice of , , BEAMA (British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers' Association), *AND* the UK gov Depts for Health & Education have issued updates to remove them in all NHS and school buildings.

So get these hazards off your shelves!

Just back from a fab little trip over Ireland to see the team at their Dublin HQ. Really interesting stuff and great to hear about how they develop their products. Lovely people (and some great craic!)

Big thanks and massive shout outs to and for hosting and organising, and all the other marvellous sparks in our little gang 💪👍💪
..and yes, I was wearing a frock...🤣

Had a much-needed weekend off the tools, and went to the Do Ho Suh exhibition at the Modern in London on Saturday.

I must have a natural affinity with and as they seem to follow me around... This installation/sculpture piece is "Perfect Home: London, Horsham, New York, Berlin, Providence, Seoul" and is a 3D sewn mesh "map" of all his previous homes' sockets, switches and other service points. I really liked it (unsurprisingly!) 🤓 Love the sockets of the world cataloguing.

Inspiring stuff 👍👌 but now back to the more functional 230v versions of installation work! 💪

Spotted this wonder out in the wild yesterday and thought I'd use it for a little Saturday afternoon 🤓

This iconic MK socket ( ) was one of the first BS1363 sockets to go to market in the early 1950s. In 1947, Britain was in the midst of a post-war house-building boom, and electrical safety and standardisation was becoming a concern, and so BS1363 (which defines the standards for our plugs and sockets) came into being.

Seems a shame to change out this working model, but its time had come, and the customer needed a double socket in its place...

(Might also tickle the fancy of and 🤓)

Part 2: instead of taking selfies in the mirrors in the bogs at the trendy bar, I'll be taking photos of the not-at-all-dodgy-looking wiring... 😬🤣
