Ladies and gentlemen, Ross Pest Control is out conducting rabbit control in the beautiful North Yorkshire Dales today.

But today is a particularly special, and somewhat emotional, day for me personally. ❤️

Lona , my oldest working bitch, turns EIGHT YEARS OLD today – 11th October! 🎂🐾

Unfortunately, the signs of her slowing down are becoming more and more apparent. Watching a dog who has given you so much over the years start to lose that speed and stamina is genuinely heartbreaking.

Lona has been an absolute credit to herself and a pleasure to own. Watching her work over the years has been something special, and without a doubt, she is one of the finest rabbiting bi***es I’ve ever had the privilege of working alongside.

As much as I’d love to keep watching her do what she has always done, it’s time to put her welfare first. I’ll be taking the running out of the equation and utilising her with the nets, allowing her to continue doing what she loves without putting unnecessary strain on her.

She’s earned that retirement from the hard running, even if she’s not quite ready to hang up her working boots altogether! ❤️

Eight years of memories, hard work, loyalty and watching an outstanding dog do what she was bred to do. I couldn’t be prouder of her.

Happy 8th birthday, Lona. Here’s to many more days out in the countryside together, just at a slightly slower pace. 🐕❤️

🪳 ROSS PEST CONTROL – GERMAN COCKROACH TREATMENT | MIDDLESBROUGH 🪳

Ross Pest Control attended a follow-up visit in the Linthorpe Road area of Middlesbrough following an ongoing treatment programme for a severe German cockroach infestation.

During today’s visit, we carried out a thorough insecticidal treatment throughout the property, alongside the application of professional-grade gel baits and the installation of additional monitoring sticky traps.

Due to the severity of the infestation, continued monitoring and further treatments will be required to ensure the population is brought under control and, ultimately, eradicated.

We have also identified a number of building defects and potential contributing factors, which have been formally submitted to the landlord with recommendations for the necessary remedial works. Another residential call-out successfully completed in the Northallerton area, and once again, this job came through a recommendation.

A massive thank you for the continued support, recommendations and kind words — it really does mean a lot to us. ❤️

This particular call-out was arranged by the gentleman’s daughter, who met me at the property on his behalf. As a thank-you for choosing Ross Pest Control, I was more than happy to apply our permanent 10% OAP discount to the treatment.

The challenge on this one was locating the nest. The client had not been able to identify exactly where the wasps were coming from, so a thorough inspection was required.

After investigating the roofline, the nest was eventually located beneath a set of pan tiles. Access was particularly awkward, requiring me to carefully manoeuvre around the roof to reach the affected area safely.

🐝 ROSS PEST CONTROL – RICHMOND AREA 🐝

Another residential call-out completed by Ross Pest Control, this time in the Richmond area following reports of wasp activity.

Upon inspection, we identified an active wasp nest that was still very much operational. Even as we move further into October, wasp activity can continue, particularly while temperatures remain favourable.

Our advice is simple: don’t ignore an active nest. Wasps can become increasingly defensive when their nest is disturbed, and attempting DIY treatment can potentially make matters worse.

🐿️ GREY SQUIRREL RIDDANCE PROGRAMME – NORTHALLERTON 🐿️

Ross Pest Control was back out in the Northallerton area today for a follow-up visit at a residential property where we are currently carrying out a professional grey squirrel riddance programme.

And what an amazing start! 👏

The programme is progressing extremely well, with excellent signs that we are getting on top of the squirrel activity. I believe we may have one final squirrel left to account for before we can move forward with the next stage of the job.

Once the squirrel activity has been completely eradicated, the next priority will be addressing the roof defect that has been providing the access point. There is little point in simply removing the squirrels without dealing with the entry point — otherwise, we would simply be inviting another problem back in!

For the roofing works, I have recommended Charlie Park at Dhm Roofing & Building specialists LTD, Darlington, to the customer. A good pest-control job is about identifying the cause of the problem, not just treating the symptoms.
