🐦 Pigeon Problem? We’ve Got It Covered! 🏡

Ross Pest Control recently attended a residential property in the Middlesbrough area following a significant pigeon ingress into the roof space.

Working alongside Dhm Roofing & Building specialists LTDRoofing, Darlington, the damaged roof tiles were professionally replaced to eliminate the point of entry, while Ross Pest Control carried out a full pigeon control operation followed by a thorough disinfection and sanitisation treatment of the affected loft space.

Many people underestimate the risks associated with pigeons. Once they gain access to a property, they can cause extensive damage by dislodging insulation, blocking ventilation, and contaminating loft spaces with droppings and nesting materials. Pigeon droppings are highly acidic, accelerating the deterioration of building materials, and can harbour bacteria, fungi, and parasites that may pose health risks to both homeowners and pets. In addition, bird mites and other insects often accompany pigeon infestations, creating further problems within the home.

The key to long-term success is not only removing the birds safely and legally but also ensuring all access points are professionally proofed to prevent future infestations.

A huge thank you to D HM Roofing for carrying out the roofing repairs quickly and to a high standard—another great example of local trades working together to provide a complete solution.

If you’re hearing scratching, cooing, or fluttering noises from your loft, don’t ignore the signs.

📞 Don’t let a small problem become a costly one—contact Ross Pest Control today for professional bird control, proofing, and disinfection services.

🐇 Week 7 – Ferreting Trips From the Past 🐇

Firstly, ladies and gentlemen, I do apologise for the delay in posting these updates. Since returning from our short break away, we’ve been extremely busy playing catch-up and getting back on top of our workload.

This week’s throwback takes us to the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, where traditional rabbit control methods were carried out using experienced ferrets and dogs. When conducted correctly, ferreting remains one of the most effective, humane, and selective methods of controlling rabbit populations.

While rabbits may look harmless, the damage they can cause is often underestimated. Large populations can devastate grazing land, crops, vegetable plots, and young trees. Their extensive burrow systems can weaken ground structure, creating serious hazards for livestock, horses, farm machinery, and people. On smallholdings and agricultural land, rabbit activity can quickly lead to reduced grazing quality, damaged fencing, and costly repairs.

Traditional wildlife management plays an important role in protecting crops, preserving land quality, and supporting local farming operations. Ferreting allows for targeted control while enjoying the great outdoors and maintaining a long-standing countryside tradition.

A fantastic day spent in the North Yorkshire countryside with good dogs, hardworking ferrets, and effective wildlife management in action.

⚠️ Viewer Discretion Advised ⚠️

Last evening, Ross Pest Control attended a smallholding to conduct a rabbit control operation following reports of ongoing rabbit activity and damage across the site.

While rabbits may appear harmless, unmanaged populations can cause significant issues for landowners, farmers, smallholders, and equestrian facilities. Rabbits are capable of causing extensive damage to grazing land, vegetable plots, gardens, and young trees through constant feeding. Their burrowing activity can also create serious hazards for livestock, horses, and people, with hidden holes increasing the risk of trips, falls, and potentially costly injuries.

On smallholdings, rabbit infestations can quickly impact feed availability for livestock, damage fencing and boundaries, and undermine sheds, outbuildings, and embankments. Left unchecked, rabbit numbers can increase rapidly, making control far more difficult and expensive in the future.

At Ross Pest Control, we always promote responsible and humane wildlife management, ensuring populations are controlled where necessary to protect land, crops, livestock, and property.

If you’re experiencing rabbit damage on your land, farm, smallholding, paddock, or garden, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

🐀 Major Rat Infestation Identified – Darlington Area 🐀

Today, Ross Pest Control attended a residential property in the Darlington area following reports of ongoing external rat activity.

Upon inspection, the tenant’s concerns were fully justified. A significant infestation was discovered, with multiple active ingress points identified around external sheds, outbuildings, and surrounding areas of the property. Clear evidence of heavy rat activity was present, indicating an established population requiring immediate attention.

A comprehensive baiting programme has now been implemented to bring the infestation under control, and detailed proofing recommendations have been submitted to the managing estate agent to help prevent future access and re-infestation.

Rodents are not only destructive to property but can also pose serious health risks through contamination and the spread of disease. Early intervention and effective proofing are essential to achieving long-term control.

If you’re hearing scratching, seeing droppings, spotting burrows, or witnessing rodent activity around your home or business, don’t ignore the warning signs.

The Tennant was briefed regarding the illegal use of glue boards !
