The "Poetry, Picnics & Pimms" evening at Balmaghie Kirk turned out to be a wonderfully relaxed and special night, marking the historic venue’s very first poetry recital. The Kirk provided a beautiful backdrop on its hill overlooking the River Dee, creating the perfect atmosphere for everyone to gather with their picnic blankets and hampers.

Starting at 5:30 pm, guests settled into the grounds to enjoy their food and drinks while listening to Hexameter, a fantastic six-piece spoken word collective from the local Dumfries & Galloway scene. Four of their award-winning, published poets—Robin Leiper, Alexandra Monlaur, John Priestley, and David Mark Williams—took turns sharing their work, keeping the crowd thoroughly entertained with accessible and engaging recitations.

The evening offered a lovely outdoor community vibe where attendees could also pick up discounted, signed copies of Hexameter’s debut poetry anthology.
