HORRIBLE!

Scarifying gets most of the attention. Mainly because, for a short time, it looks as though we’re trying to finish the lawn off altogether.

But scarifying is only the beginning.

After removing the unwanted thatch, we aerated the soil, stitched fresh grass seed directly into it and applied top-dressing to help everything establish.

Swipe across to see what this same lawn looked like immediately after its Renov8.

A little alarming? Possibly.

Worth it? We’ll let the finished lawn answer that.

If your lawn is thin, tired or carrying years of thatch, send us a few photographs and ask about Renov8.

TRY GETTING FITTER WHILE YOUR BREATHING IS RESTRICTED… ON A FLIGHT OF STEPS. 😮‍💨

AI is overused—but I like this one: OUR real photos of serious thatch, mixed with an eejit doing high knees on the steps in a massive mask.

Funny photo. Real problem.

Thatch makes everything harder. Water, air and nutrients struggle to reach the soil and roots while the grass battles through a dense, spongy barrier.

Sure, why would you scarify? 😏

Because scarification removes that restriction and lets the lawn breathe. Add aeration, grass stitching and top dressing through Renov8, and you create the conditions for thicker, stronger grass.

If your lawn feels spongy, thatch may be holding it back.

September spaces are limited—message Lawngevity to have yours assessed.

Sure, why would you scarify? 👀

The first photograph is the bit everyone panics about.

The next two are the bit they show the neighbours.

Yes! These are all the same lawn.

Our Renov8 process:

• Scarify to remove the thatch and dead material
• Aerate to open the soil
• Grass stitch to place fresh seed properly into the ground
• Top-dress to protect the seed and improve the surface

A proper lawn renovation can look fairly brutal on day one. That’s because we’re not hiding the problem, we’re resetting the lawn properly.

Thin, tired, spongy or full of thatch?

Get in touch and send us a few photographs. We’ll tell you honestly whether your lawn would benefit from a Renov8 or perhaps it just needs some TLC

Belle & Samson on their summer holidays at Erigal

☀️ Not all brown patches are caused by the same problem…

These two lawns show two common types of summer damage.

🐕 The small, concentrated patches are caused by dog urine. Urine contains concentrated salts and nitrogen which can scorch the grass—particularly during hot, dry weather. Read our blog to learn why this happens and what you can do: https://www.lawngevity.co.uk/repair-dog-urine-scorch-marks/

🔥 The larger area of dieback follows the edge of the driveway. Concrete beneath the kerb retains and radiates heat, while the soil beside it is often very shallow. That means there is less moisture available to the roots, so the grass dries out much faster than the rest of the lawn.

To help stressed edges recover:

💧 Water slowly and deeply, paying particular attention to the first 30–45 cm beside paths, kerbs and patios. A quick sprinkle will not pe*****te deeply enough. A soaker hose is ideal for giving these areas a long, controlled soak without wasting water.

The good news? Both types of damage can be repaired.

Once the weather cools and moisture returns, we can remove the dead material, loosen the soil, improve the growing medium where necessary and reseed the affected areas. Where soil is extremely shallow beside concrete, adding suitable topsoil before reseeding will give the new grass a better chance of establishing.

First identify the cause—then apply the right repair. 🌱

If you're wondering what a Lawngevity lawn should look like... this is it. 🌱💚

This is the lawn of our Senior Technician, Stuart.

Every treatment we apply to our clients' lawns, Stuart applies to his own. No secret products. No special treatment. Just the exact same Lawngevity programme we recommend across the Ballymena area.

His lawn certainly doesn't have it easy. It's built on heavy Ballymena clay, sits high on an exposed site, is surrounded by agricultural land, and regularly faces cooler temperatures and stronger winds than many of our clients experience.

Recently, Stuart invested in a new Hayter roller mower, and those stripes are certainly doing their job! 👌

But here's something you might not expect...

Stuart isn't completely happy.

Like any lawn enthusiast, he sees the imperfections that most people would never notice. There's a little more thatch than he'd like and the first signs of Red Thread have appeared following the recent warm, humid weather.

So, just as we'd advise any client:
✅ Anti-biotic (fungicide) treatment next week as temperatures ease.
✅ Scarification booked for September to remove the built-up thatch.
✅ Continue with weekly mowing and the Lawngevity treatment programme.

That's what professional lawn care is all about. It's not chasing perfection—it's understanding what your lawn needs, when it needs it, and making the right decisions at the right time.

We think Stuart is doing a cracking job... although we know he'll still be looking for ways to make it even better! 😄

Healthy soil. Stronger grass. Better lawns. That's the Lawngevity way. 🌿

🌱 Is your lawn trying to tell you something?

Most lawn problems don't start with weeds or moss...

They start beneath the surface.

Our comprehensive Lawn Survey looks beyond what you can see, helping us identify the underlying causes of poor colour, thinning grass, moss, weeds and weak growth before recommending the right treatment plan for your lawn.

At Lawngevity, we don't believe in guesswork. We believe in understanding your soil, strengthening your lawn from the roots up, and creating long-term results—not quick fixes.

Watch this short video to see how our survey works and why it's the first step towards a lawn you'll be proud of.
