This bathroom presented us with a few challenges. Long and narrow in its original layout, the existing small bath left the room feeling cramped and offered very limited options when our clients asked us to replace it with a shower.
Rather than simply replacing the bath with a narrow shower tray, we went back to the drawing board.

By taking a section of the adjacent bedroom, we were able to increase the width of the bathroom at the shower end and create a generous walk-in shower with a large recessed niche. Positioned directly in front of you as you enter the room, we wanted this to become a real focal point, so we chose these stunning navy blue foliage tiles in a large format.
We also relocated the door to make better use of the available space, allowing the shower, basin and WC to sit comfortably alongside one another.
New studwork was formed to accommodate the concealed cistern, soil pipe and basin pipework, bespoke mirror and bulkhead. The large mirror was incorporated to help create the illusion that the room is wider than it actually is.
As part of a beautiful barn conversion, the room also benefits from an angled ceiling, an exposed timber beam and Velux window. We wanted to retain these original features and, importantly, preserve the natural light. Rather than lowering the ceiling, the new studwork stops before the roof pitch, with LED lighting installed above to wash light across the ceiling and highlight the beautiful architecture.
Ambient LED lighting has also been incorporated into the shower recess and beneath the basin, adding a softer layer of light when the main lighting isn’t required.
What started as a challenging, narrow bathroom has been transformed into a spacious and cleverly designed walk-in shower room without compromising the features that make this barn conversion so special.
