🚨 Blocked Drain & CCTV Survey Completed in Gosforth 🚨💧

Another great job completed by the DS Drainage team this week! 👷🏻‍♂️🚜

We attended a property in Gosforth after the customer was suffering with a blocked sewer. On arrival, we found the inspection chamber completely surcharged. 💩🚫

The customer explained that another drainage contractor had attended just two weeks earlier, carried out a CCTV survey and recommended installing a 65-metre drain liner at a very high cost. 😳

After clearing the blockage, we carried out our own CCTV survey and found that the existing pipework is only around 2 feet deep, running mainly through grass and a stone driveway. In this situation, a full pipe replacement is a far more sensible and cost-effective long-term solution.

We’re pleased to say we were able to provide the customer with a quotation for a complete new drainage line for less than half the price they had previously been quoted for the liner installation. 💷✅

🎉 Even better news – the customer accepted our quotation while we were on site, and the work is now booked in to be completed over the next couple of weeks! 👏🚜

This job first started on Monday, when we attended the property to carry out a CCTV survey after the customer reported ongoing drainage issues. 📹💩

Our survey identified a collapsed trap on the sewer line, so we booked the customer in and returned today for a nice, straightforward Saturday repair. 💪

✅ Collapsed trap removed
✅ New underground pipework installed
✅ New bands and seals fitted
✅ Pipework laid and bedded on 10mm pea gravel
✅ New rodding eye installed in the back garden for future access
✅ New inspection chamber frame and cover fitted
✅ Concrete driveway fully reinstated
✅ Site left clean, tidy and fully operational

The week got off to a busy start with a blocked drain call-out in Carlisle. 📍

Our team attended to find the inspection chambers completely surcharged. After investigating the blockage, we found the culprit… baby wipes! 🚫🧻

Even wipes labelled as “flushable” can cause serious blockages, leading to costly repairs and unnecessary disruption. Please only flush the 3 Ps – P*e, Poo and Paper! 🚽

🏡💧 Thinking of buying or selling a property with a septic tank? Read this! 💧🏡

One of the most important things you can do before purchasing a property, or putting your property on the market, is have the septic tank system professionally inspected. ✅

This week we attended a property in the Great Orton area after the customer reported a blockage. Unfortunately, what we found highlights exactly why these inspections are so important.

Upon investigation, we discovered the septic tank system was discharging directly into a natural watercourse just 6 metres away ❌🌊. CCTV surveys also revealed broken pipework, while the septic tank itself was found to be in a very poor structural condition. The tank was no longer holding waste correctly and was actively polluting the surrounding environment due to significant defects. 😬

The customer had only been in the property for around 2 months and suspected something wasn’t quite right, but had been reassured with the classic phrase:

👉 “It worked when we bought the place.” 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Sadly, systems don’t always meet current regulations, and hidden defects can quickly become an expensive problem for new owners.

The good news is that we were able to fully assess the situation and provide honest advice. As the customer plans to convert the property into an Airbnb, a new compliant sewage treatment plant is now the best long-term solution, and we are pleased to say she was more than happy for us to provide a quotation. 👍
