How can you tell if a downpipe is blocked?
This downpipe was completely blocked, and when the obstruction finally released, the amount of trapped rainwater told the story!
But we didn’t just clear it and walk away.
We slightly shortened the downpipe and renewed the fixing bracket to give it a strong, secure hold. This also leaves the bottom of the downpipe visible, so if debris causes another blockage in the future, there’s a much better chance it can be spotted rather than remaining hidden inside the pipe.
A blocked downpipe can cause gutters to overflow because the rainwater simply has nowhere to go. That’s why, when we’re cleaning gutters, checking that the downpipes are flowing properly is just as important as removing the debris you can see in the gutter itself.
Sometimes a small adjustment can make future problems much easier to identify.
