EVOLUTION. NOT REVOLUTION.
An approved principle, reconsidered.
Planning approval secured for a replacement dwelling in an exceptionally sensitive historic environment, associated with a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The challenge was not simply to design a different house.
It was to reconsider the siting, layout, scale, form and architectural character of an already approved dwelling, while retaining the established planning principle.
Our approach centred on Section 73 of the Town and Country Planning Act, seeking approval for amendments through a variation of the existing planning conditions.
177 days in planning.
SECTION 73 APPROVED.
The siting evolved.
The layout evolved.
The architecture evolved.
The planning strategy remained.
Sometimes the most valuable part of design is understanding how to move an existing approval forward.
