This week is Gas Safety Week…an important date in our calendar!
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas produced by the incomplete combustion of carbon-based fuels, such as gas, oil, wood, and coal. It’s highly dangerous because it can’t be detected by human senses, earning it the nickname ‘silent killer’. Exposure to carbon monoxide can lead to symptoms ranging from headaches, dizziness, and nausea to unconsciousness and worse.
To ensure safety, it’s crucial to install carbon monoxide detectors in your home, especially near sleeping areas. Regular maintenance and battery checks are essential to ensure these detectors are functioning correctly. Regular inspections of heating systems and flues by qualified professionals, such as ourselves, are also vital.
In case of suspicion of carbon monoxide poisoning, immediately evacuate the premises, seek fresh air, and call emergency services. Early detection and prevention are vital to reducing the risks associated with carbon monoxide exposure.
