Long post alert!
Sometimes, you have to trust the process, even when you have no idea where it is leading you!
On Monday I start a weekly therapeutic gardening session with 4 SEND children, this is something I have dreamed about doing for many years.
If you’ve ever had a dream to do something different, something that feels a little outside the life you know or the path you were trained for, I think there is something powerful in listening to that feeling and seeing where it takes you.
Because I listened 5 and a half years ago, today have my dream business, ecs gardening care.
Looking back my 21 year old self could never have imagined that I would one day be doing the work I do now. It is completely different from anything I was originally trained in, and yet somehow it feels like exactly where I was meant to end up.
Along the way, gardening has become about so much more than simply growing things, having completed a diploma in mindfulness, I’ve come to realise just how naturally mindfulness and nature belong together. There is something about being outside, putting your hands in the soil, noticing the changing seasons and simply being present with what is around you that brings you back to yourself.
And now to be able to make a difference in a young person’s life through nature and gardening is an incredible privilege. To watch a young person discover the joy of growing something, getting their hands in the soil, spending time outdoors and finding a little space to breathe, connect and simply be is a wonderful thing.
In October, as part of ecs education, I am starting my journey to become a Social and Therapeutic Horticulture Practitioner, something I just can not believe is happening, as i look back I realise that the dream I once carried quietly has somehow become my everyday life.
It has taught me to trust where I feel led to go, even when the destination isn’t obvious. Life doesn’t always follow the path we planned or trained for. Sometimes all the different threads — the things we learn, the things we love and the things we feel drawn towards — come together in a way we could never have planned.
Over the two decades since starting my career at 21, I feel incredibly blessed to be doing something different and that I love, and to be able to say that sometimes, when you trust the process and follow where you feel led, dreams really do come true.
"A dream stays a dream until your feet begin to move.”
Thank you to everyone who has helped along the way, I appreciate you all.
Keep dreaming and gardening everyone!
