By day, you'd barely notice them.
That's the point.
This garden was already something special. Winding brick paths, a natural pond with a timber bridge, mature birches, a sculptural rhododendron, a centuries-old olive tree in a corten planter, a pool and an outdoor kitchen pavilion.
But after sunset? It all disappeared.
Most people think garden lighting is about making things bright. It's not. It's about choosing what to show, and what to leave in shadow.
So that's how we approached it:
* Uplighters placed at the base of the trees, so the trunks and canopies become the backdrop to the whole garden
* Low mushroom-head path lights that wash the brickwork without glaring in your eyes
* Recessed step lights set into the stone, so every level change is safe after dark
* Soft washes on the pavilion columns, turning the dining area into the glowing centrepiece
* Discreet spike lights tucked into the borders by the pond, picking out the planting and reflections
* Espaliered fruit trees lit against the dark hedge, like living artwork
Before: a beautiful garden you could only enjoy until 8pm.
After: a garden that changes character completely once the sun goes down.
The fittings sit quietly among the planting by day. At night, they do all the talking.
