⚠️ Hidden Danger Overhead ⚠️

We recently replaced a set of old halogen downlights that were causing more problems than the homeowner realised.

🔥 Several junction boxes had been damaged by heat from the old fittings.
⚠️ Some boxes were missing lids completely, leaving electrical connections exposed.
❌ Poor installation and ageing equipment created a potential safety risk.

We removed the old halogen lights, installed new energy-efficient LED downlights, and fitted the correct connectors and junction boxes to bring everything up to a safe standard.

We don’t like seeing cables, so try to hide them wherever possible!

In this tricky Hypervolt install, we had the consumer unit and incoming supply / meter buried in the middle of the House, after a few extensions over the years.

We managed to run the cable up into the loft, hidden thanks to a kitchen cupboard, along the length of the house in the loft, then out the soffit. We then used the gutter down pipe to hide the external cable drop down to the right position!

Yes 3 of the 4 down pipe screws were seized and snapped, but I hope you agree, removing the downpipe, clipping the cable and reinstalling the downpipe really made the difference to the tidiness of this install!

Why do I feel like this is going to be controversial 😬

Life with an EV van is turning out pretty well! The van it’s self, the from KIA PBV West End Garage is genuinely fantastic, together with the Yoke Vans racking it works perfectly for my needs. Everyone loves the graphics which make it really stand out , Andy AP Design Solutions nailed it!

The van is a great drive, extremely quiet, nippy and full of tech. The vehicle to load plugs are really useful when out and about too.

Plus the huge benefit of running costs, last month I spent a whopping £15.29 on charging at home 😅 to put into context I used to spend around £200-£250 per month on diesel , but that was last year before fuel costs jumped up. So likely more like £300 at the moment. Granted I do get some free energy on Sundays but you can’t argue that’s cheap motoring!

I’m getting around 250 miles per charge which is enough for a weeks work, it won’t be enough for some people, but it’s perfect for me!

Sometimes you stumble upon wild stuff, this one didn’t disappoint. Private let, of course, I walk in to be greeted by the landlord doing electrical work in the bathroom 🚩 , barely knowing one end of a screwdriver from the other , and then had the cheek to ask to borrow some tools 🚩

I took the cover off the consumer unit (a brand I’d never seen, of course 🚩) and was absolutely shocked at what I saw;
1) screw missing from main neutral connection
2) screw missing from main earth connection
3) no protection on incoming cables (cables against bare metal)
4) loose connections on almost every screw
5) broken conductors
6) single insulation showing in various places

I spotted all that in about 2 minutes without looking around the property.

Then I find out this property had just had a SATISFACTORY EICR other than a couple of C3 observations which the land lord was doing.

Absolute joke. Raging 😡

I am going to find out who issued this joke EICR and report them to the regulatory body, this is not acceptable, putting the family renting a serious risk.
