My last exterior job of 2026 was completed last week, a set of very old sash windows in urgent need of restoration. The usual steps were taken to prepare and paint these windows, this time using Sikkens PU satin topcoat . The result is a beautiful finish that compliments the windows, is long lasting & a very happy customer.

I've not posted any work in a while, I've been so busy I don't get much time! Here's a couple completed recently.

The first an exterior sash window / door job, removing all old varnish, and painting with a dark oak satin stain, to bring out the depth & colour of the oak. Some repair work was also carried out to a few of the glass beads that had split & warped.

Secondly another sash window job, although not quite as extensive, these newer windows required far less preparation. Prepared and painted using Dulux weathershield high gloss. The masonry sills were also prepared, sealed & filled, with 3 coats of brilliant white microseal masonry paint.

So...... 30c temperatures, on scaffolding, with one of the worst exterior jobs I've ever seen. 2 days of stripping down ...

So...... 30c temperatures, on scaffolding, with one of the worst exterior jobs I've ever seen. 2 days of stripping down loose window putty, flaking render, rotten timber and gaps nearly an inch wide, I thought this Dorma was unsavable......but I like a challenge 💪

Battling the weather with exterior painting isn't always easy, this job is no exception. Some of the worst ( & largest) barge boards I've ever worked with needed some serious attention. Just to put the size into perspective, the largest length spanned over 3 lifts of scaffolding, meaning it had to be completed in 3 seperate sections, & all look uniform. I also had a window that was falong to bits & a cellar door that had seen better days. I still have a few downpipes to paint and a garage door, which I'll be returning to do soon.
