Inspiring the next generation of construction professionals...

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Bury Careers Event at Castle Leisure Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

Alongside other local employers and education providers, our CHC team, which included our MD Mike (who began his CHC journey whilst on industrial placement studying Civil Engineering) and two of our apprentices – one following a route in Quantity Surveying and the other in Accounting, had the opportunity to meet parents and Year 10 and 11 students and talk about the wide variety of routes into construction and the career opportunities our industry has to offer.

It was great to see so much interest and enthusiasm. Thanks to everyone who stopped for a chat.

Baking a difference for Macmillan...

We held our Macmillan Coffee Morning today and were treated to an amazing range of cakes, all made by our very own ‘bakers’. Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and baked and to everyone who bought a slice (or three) and donated. Every penny raised has gone directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Special mention to Dave Robinson, who took a selection of cakes over to Pyramid Park to sell to the lads on site, spreading the coffee morning a bit further.

A great morning, some super cakes and most importantly, over £200 raised for a fantastic cause.

Apprentices at work...

For the last two weeks, our three Plant Apprentices have taken a break from driving plant machinery and headed back to Hopwood Hall College to complete a Groundworks course.

From setting out to practical groundwork tasks, they've been building new skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the work that supports every construction project.

The photo speaks for itself and shows the excellent results of their efforts. Well done to all three apprentices on their commitment and hard work.

Double gold at the HDKI World Karate Championships

Huge congratulations to Shaun Cassidy, who has achieved an incredible double-gold success at the HDKI World Karate Championships in Gotemba, Japan.

Shaun took gold in the Senior Men’s 20+ Kumite, before adding a second gold in the Senior Men’s Team Kumite as part of the three-man GB team.

An outstanding achievement on the world stage and a fantastic reward for all the hard work, dedication and training that goes into competing at this level.

Congratulations, Shaun, you smashed it - two world championship golds to be very proud of.

Back to college for our apprentices 2026...

All of our apprentices have now started their new term at college, continuing to build the skills, knowledge and experience that will support their future careers. This year, that learning takes several different forms:

Callum, Luke and Joseph, our three Plant apprentices, have returned to Hopwood Hall College for a two-week groundworks course.

Charlie is now in his fourth year of a part-time Degree apprenticeship in quantity surveying at The University of Salford, continuing to combine academic study with real time experience in the workplace.

Nathan has started a Senior civil engineering technician apprenticeship at Apprenticeships at Salford City College.

Lottie is about to start her Level 2 AAT apprenticeship at Bury College, developing skills for a career in finance and accounting.

And Charles who recently completed GCSEs at Bury Grammar School, has just started a T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning at Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form. As part of the programme, Charles will join us for work experience, putting classroom learning into practice and gaining first-hand experience of the industry.

What is different about this group is that is shows there is no one route into a construction career. From plant operations and civil engineering to quantity surveying, finance, design and planning, there are so many different opportunities to learn, progress and build a rewarding career.

We’re also proud of the relationships we continue to build with a range of local colleges and universities. Working together helps us give people access to high-quality training while developing the skills our business and wider industry need for the future.
Wishing good luck to all our apprentices for the new term. We’re looking forward to watching their progress.

If you are interested in finding out more about apprentice opportunities, please contact Claire Chamberlain on 0161 761 5109, email [email protected], or come and see us at Bury Careers Event on 30 September at Castle Leisure Centre.

It was great to see CHC machines at work in the middle of Bury. Hopefully we can inspire the next generation of students from Bury College who were watching the diggers from the bridge. Don't just stand and watch - you could be operating them on an apprenticeship - just get in touch. Call Claire on 0161 761 5109 or email [email protected] We will also be at the Bury Careers Event at Castle Leisure Centre on 30 September, why not come along and say hello, and see what career paths are available.

🚧 Investing in Safety – Because people come first 🚧

At CHC safety is more than a requirement – it's a priority.

That's why our latest CAT 352, CAT 336, CAT 313 excavators and CAT D6 dozers are equipped with Safety Shield Human Form Recognition System (HFRS) technology.

This advanced AI-powered safety system is designed to help operators identify people working around the machine, providing an extra layer of awareness in busy construction environments.

✅ Human Form Recognition (HFRS) alerts operators when people are detected within the machine's working area.
✅ Visual and audible warnings help improve operator awareness.
✅ Supports safer working practices on congested sites.
✅ Reduces the risk of incidents involving personnel working close to heavy plant.
✅ Gives our customers confidence that they're hiring equipment with the latest safety technology.

While no technology replaces a trained operator or safe working procedures, systems like HFRS provide an additional level of protection that can make a real difference on site.

We're continually investing in our fleet to ensure our customers have access to modern, reliable and safety-focused equipment.

Available on selected:
🔸 CAT 352 Excavators
🔸 CAT 336 Excavators
🔸 CAT 313 Excavators
🔸 CAT D6 Dozers

Because safer sites are better sites.
