Got a building project you've been thinking about but haven't got around to pricing yet? 👇

It’s often worth getting things moving earlier than you think.

Whether you're looking at:
🏠 An extension
🧱 Brick & blockwork
🚗 A new driveway
🌿 A garden wall
🏗️ A new build or structural work

Getting a price early gives you time to:
✔️ Work out your budget
✔️ Plan the work properly
✔️ Get materials organised
✔️ Look at suitable dates
✔️ Make any changes before work starts

And you don't need to have everything figured out before getting in touch.

If you've got an idea but you're not quite sure where to start, send us a message with a few details. We're happy to have a look, talk it through and give you an idea of what's involved 👍

Construction takes place in real conditions, not in a studio. Rain, wind, heat and cold can all affect what is sensible to do and how fresh work or materials need to be managed.

A professional response is not to pretend the weather does not matter. It is to use the project requirements, manufacturer guidance and site judgement to plan around it.

That may change the sequence or the task for the day. It should not change the expectation for the finished result.

Good progress is not simply doing something in every condition. It is doing the right work at the right time.

Before materials disappear into a wall, the delivery information matters.

Product identity, quantity, condition and the relationship between deliveries should be checked against the project requirements before large areas are built. Packaging and labels can hold information that becomes harder to recover once everything has been opened and distributed around site.

A calm early check makes questions easier to raise with the supplier and project team. Discovering a mismatch halfway through an elevation gives everyone fewer options.

This is general procurement practice, not a claim about Doughty’s own process.

Choose Doughty when you want brickwork treated as part of the project - not simply as the visible finish.

The focus is on four things: understanding how the design translates into real brick dimensions, recognising where details and materials need early coordination, keeping buildability in the conversation and caring about how the finished elevation comes together.

That approach is relevant whether the project is a new build, an extension or a wider residential development.

Doughty is not positioned around being the cheapest option. The value is in specialist brickwork thinking, practical coordination and attention to the details people will continue to see long after the site has moved on.

Ever wondered what actually goes behind the brickwork you see on a finished house? 👇

This is the stage where you can really see how the build starts coming together.

You've got:
🔹 External brickwork
🔹 Internal blockwork
🔹 Structural walls
🔹 Door and window openings
🔹 Different rooms and sections taking shape

The finished brickwork might be what catches your eye, but there’s plenty happening behind it that’s just as important.

Getting the structure, layout and openings right now makes everything that follows much easier.

It's not just about laying bricks — it's about making sure the whole build is right before the next stages begin.

Planning an extension, new build or structural work? We're always happy to have a look at what you're planning and give you some honest advice before you get started 👍

Repeated details benefit from a clear reference.

An agreed feature, corner or opening can help the project team align on the intended geometry and finish before the same decision is made again across further plots. The reference should sit alongside the drawings and specification, not replace them.

The value is in removing ambiguity. If a later detail looks different, the conversation can begin with something visible and already understood.

This becomes genuine proof content only when Doughty supplies an approved real example. The current visual should remain clearly illustrative.

New-build brickwork is not one isolated wall. It connects with drawings, openings, materials, scaffold, deliveries, other trades and the programme across the wider site.

A brickwork-focused contractor adds value by looking at those connections through the lens of what must actually be built. Repeated details need a clear reference. Non-standard units need identifying. Questions need resolving before they are repeated across further plots.

Doughty is positioned around brickwork and new builds, bringing that specialist focus to the project conversation.

Choose Doughty when you want the brickwork considered as part of the whole build — not treated as a finish added at the end.

A feature can look simple in a visualisation while asking a lot of the design and site team.

Changes in depth, pattern, bond or orientation may affect support, dimensions, specials, repetition and how the detail meets openings or corners. If those questions are left until the feature is under way, the intended effect can become harder to deliver consistently.

Good buildability does not dilute the design. It gives the idea a realistic route from drawing to finished elevation.

Swipe through for the conversations worth having before a decorative detail is repeated across the project.

The difference is often in the details 👇

Good brickwork isn't just about getting the bricks on the wall.

There’s a lot that needs to be right as you go:
🔹 Keeping the courses level
🔹 Consistent mortar joints
🔹 Straight corners
🔹 Accurate window and door openings
🔹 Making sure everything lines through properly
🔹 Matching the brickwork into the rest of the build

These things might seem small, but get one of them wrong and it can really stand out once the job is finished.

It’s usually the little details that make the biggest difference to the final finish.

If you've got a project coming up and want to make sure the brickwork is right from the start, send us a message. Happy to have a chat 👍

Brickwork is visible on the finished building, but many of the decisions that shape it happen much earlier.

Doughty’s value is in bringing a brickwork-led view to those conversations: do the dimensions work with the chosen brick, are openings coordinated, are feature details buildable and have non-standard materials been recognised in time?

That focus can help turn a drawing into an elevation the site team can deliver with greater clarity. It is not about replacing the architect, engineer or wider project team. It is about contributing specialist brickwork thinking where it matters.

For homeowners and developers, that is value beyond simply counting the bricks in the wall.
