🏗️ PROJECT UPDATE | MORRISON STREET

As our Morrison Street project continues to progress, the team have now completed another of the more technically challenging sections of the scaffold.

A 16m beam section with a 6m cantilever beam return has been installed, allowing the client to maintain essential access in and around the building’s service ramps while the works continue.

What makes this section particularly interesting is that it combines three different beam installation methods within one detail:
• A Beam Bridging Section
• A Cantilever Beam Section
• A Piggyback Return Beam Section

And it doesn’t stop at the beam. Once this elevation is complete, the structure will support 16 fully boarded scaffold lifts above it, making the design and installation of this section critical to the overall scaffold package for the project.

This is exactly why specialist scaffolding solutions are so important on tight, live city-centre sites as well as the Scaffold Contractor you are trusting to install them.

Another great example of the technical capability of our team and what can be achieved when the scaffold is designed around the needs of the project.

As Hard Rock Scaffolding continues to grow, we’re delighted to be expanding our team.

Thanks to securing a number of new projects, along with continued support from our existing clients, we’re looking to recruit experienced scaffolding operatives to join us as we continue to deliver work across Scotland and Northern England.

If you’re looking to join a busy, professional company with a strong focus on safety, quality and delivering complex scaffolding solutions, we’d love to hear from you.

This week saw another bespoke access solution successfully delivered by the Hard Rock Scaffolding team for one of our ongoing Maintenance Contracts.

Working within a live retail environment, we were tasked with providing safe access for specialist lighting repairs above a busy three-lane escalator, without disrupting the day-to-day operation of the store.
To minimise disruption, our team carried out the scaffold er****on during restricted store closure nightshift, ensuring the store was ready to reopen to customers the following morning.
Using our extensive stock of Layher Flex Beam, we designed and erected a bespoke 204 sqm suspended working platform that safely spanned the escalators, creating a secure working area for the lighting contractor while maintaining the integrity of the space below.

Projects like this demonstrate the versatility of the Layher system and the value of combining innovative design with experienced scaffolding teams.
When conventional scaffolding isn’t an option, our engineers and operatives work together to develop practical, safe and efficient access solutions tailored to each environment.

Whether it’s a live retail store, industrial facility, infrastructure project or complex refurbishment, Hard Rock Scaffolding has the expertise to make challenging access requirements possible.

New Project Update

Another exciting Hard Rock Scaffolding project is now underway in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre.

We're delighted to be working alongside McAleer & Rushe on the demolition and redevelopment of this impressive city centre building. The existing structure is being stripped back to its steel frame, with the 5th and 6th floors being completely removed before being rebuilt to the existing footprint. Two additional floors will then be constructed, transforming the building into an eight-storey development.

As with many city centre projects, this one comes with its own technical challenges. The scaffold design includes several complex beam sections, splay scaffolds, protection fans, and intricate tie details that require careful planning and ex*****on.

One particularly challenging element involves drilling through the building's steelwork before passing through the concrete slab to install the scaffold ties. It's a slow and methodical process, but one our team understands the importance of getting right. Safety, Quality, and attention to detail always come first.

Despite only being on site for just seven days, our five-person team has already erected an impressive 1,269 metres of scaffold, including:

• A full-height lift shaft scaffold to facilitate the removal of the upper two floors.
• The front elevation incorporating a quadruple loading bay.
• The gable elevation with beam section.
• Protection fans to both elevations.

A project like this wouldn't be possible without the support of our yard and transport team. City centre sites rarely offer the luxury of space, and this project has required multiple deliveries each day throughout the first week. Thanks to the experience and precision of our HIAB drivers, materials have been lifted directly onto the scaffold wherever possible, significantly reducing manual handling for our operatives and helping maintain an efficient installation programme until the site tower crane is commissioned.

Here are a few photos of the scaffolding before the Monarflex sheeting is installed next week. The next phase will see the team erecting additional beam sections over the slip ramp into the building as the project continues to take shape.

We'll be sharing regular updates throughout both the demolition and reconstruction phases, so keep an eye on our page to follow the progress.
