Q. What did the pumpkin say to the pumpkin carver?
A. Cut it out!
Sorry we can't cut out the poor Friday Funnys!
The pump was out in force today on site, with the suspended concrete floor slabs being formed at our current housing development.
Huge efforts from the contractor working in typical Scottish weather conditions, oscillating between pure blue skies and heavy downpours! Canny cut that out either unfortunately!

On reflection, Vampires aren't that scary..... 🙃
As we enter the autumnal phase, its definitely feeling like a time for reflection. It has been a fantastically busy year for HAB Architecture, particularly with our relocation to Broxburn. Daily walks along the canal and seeing the changing seasons reflecting back, has been such a positive change that hadn't even been considered.
Reflecting on our own progress is so important for everyone's development. And HAB Architecture are definitely reflecting on their own progress!

I asked Marc how he planned to spend the weekend. He replied "first my wife and I will go collect our prescription glasses from the opticians, and then we'll see".... 🤓

A huge part of our work at HAB is preparing plans for our Clients. Often they themselves are planning for the future be it downsizing; upsizing or simply altering for the greater good, our lives revolve around all sorts of plans!

I asked AI to design a building with no flaws. It came back with a perfect design - then reminded me it forgot to include the stairs.... 😂
There has been a lot of discussion lately regarding the use of AI. Like it or loath it, it is here. At HAB Architecture we are aware of the critical need for human input. Without considered thought to a design, it is likely AI will not get it right. That is why we are allowing AI to enter our practice but on our terms and conditions. This recent Planning Submission has been aided with the assistance of AI to produce visuals for our Clients to better understand their project. It is a tool but it is not perfect. What's your thoughts?!

Called the council today to ask if I could have a skip out the front of the house.
They replied "you could cartwheel around the block for all we care".... 🤣
Our clients will be thinking about a skip out the front of their house AND a cartwheel around the block after receiving Planning Permission for this house alteration and rear extension this week. Great ending to another busy week at HAB HQ!

September has come upon us already, following a fantastically busy couple of weeks for team HAB. This week we have enjoyed hosting a local high school pupil as she undertook her work placement with us. We were impressed at her skills and aptitude for Architecture and enjoyed showing her around one of our recently completed projects at Sheephouse Nursery in Fauldhouse! (*thanks to the team there for having us!). We also spent some time at The Engine Shed in Stirling at the launch of the new guidance for Conversions of Traditional Buildings. All while continuing to work and produce our clients with their projects. It has been a busy time!

Q. Why did the weightlifter bring a ladder to the gym?
A. Because he heard he needed to take his lifting to the next level!.... 😒

I heard the phrase this week, that everyone wants to be a weight lifter but noone wants to put the effort in and lift the big weights. There's definitely something in that. HAB Architecture work extremely hard at what they do and strive achieve their best.
Delighted to receive the great news this week that HAB have recieved votes in this year's Scottish Home Improvement Awards and are Finalists in the Scotlands Best Architectural Practice category! A notoriously difficult category with the calibre of other practices extremely high, so Marc and I are delighted to have been recognised by those who took the time to vote for us!

Q. Why did the shop window never get lonely?
A. Because it was always looking out for someone! 🙄

Another exciting week for HABs new HQ following a visit from the very talented who has skillfully hand painted our new shop front window! Obviously Fionas 7yo daughter did most of the work and ensured the over all inspection of the work but the artist did not too badly at all! 🙏🥰
Please never be lonely if you are passing and pop in to our offices for a warm welcome and a cuppa and biccie if you're lucky!

Getting planning permission in Scotland is a bit like waiting for summer - you know it should arrive eventually but you wouldn't bet your holiday on it!

HAB operate all over Scotland and each local authority have their own processes to follow but did you know a house holder application has a statutory 8week period during which time the application should be able to be determined. We can't ever guarantee Planning Approval but thankfully in this instance, the approval for this single storey extension came in within the determination period! A yes for all involved!
