Home is where the heart is...

Ours has two dogs in it, a kettle that's always on, and a heating system that had better work, because Paul would never hear the end of it.

That's the thing we remember on every job. We're not walking into a property. We're walking into somebody's home. The place their kids grow up in. The place they come back to when the day's been rough.

Getting it warm and keeping it working is the least we can do.

We spend all winter keeping you warm, so here's the flip side: how to stay safe when the temperature soars.

Know the risks.

Heat exhaustion can creep up fast, especially for older people, babies, and anyone with health conditions. Watch for dizziness, headaches, cramps, confusion, or heavy sweating that suddenly stops. If someone's confused, breathing fast, or has hot dry skin, call 999.

Check in on people. Knock on for elderly neighbours, ring your nan, message the friend who lives alone. A two minute check could make all the difference. And don't forget pets: fresh water, shade, and never leave them in a car.

Pavements too hot for your hand are too hot for their paws. 🐾

Keep your home cool:

☀️ Close curtains and blinds on sun facing windows during the day
🪟 Keep windows shut while it's hotter outside than in, then open up in the evening
💧 Drink lots of water
🔌 Switch off gadgets you're not using, they all add heat
🛏️ Cotton bedding and a cool shower before bed

Stay safe, stay cool, and keep an eye out for each other. That's what community's all about. 💙
