New Loft Staircase 🏡
The position of the existing staircase is super import and can have a huge impact on the final design.
Ideally, we like the new loft staircase to continue above the existing staircase.
There are a few advantages to doing this.
Firstly, it can make use of what is otherwise relatively dead space around the existing landing and stairwell.
Secondly, it can avoid having to take a large section out of an existing bedroom simply to provide access to the loft.
Most importantly, it can make the loft conversion feel like it has always been part of the house.
In our experience, the staircase can make or break a loft conversion.
A well-positioned staircase gives the new floor a natural flow. You walk upstairs in exactly the way you would expect to in a house that was originally built over three storeys.
A badly positioned staircase can leave you with awkward landings, compromised bedrooms and a loft that feels more obviously like an addition.
