Meet Loris, a young person doing work experience with BM Safety, and clearly loving every minute of it.

This footage is from the recent Bristol Triathlon, where our team provided safety cover and pontoon access for the swim leg.

During his work experience, Loris joined our experienced team to assist with the manoeuvring of the pontoon into position, and saw first-hand what it takes to keep an event like this running safely.

We think it's important to give young people a genuine route into this industry, not just work shadowing, but real hands-on experience on the water.

If you know a young person interested in a career on the water, get in touch. We're always happy to talk about work experience opportunities at BM Safety.

Huge congratulations to everyone who took on the Dartmouth 10k this weekend, a proper point-to-point swim.

We were proud to build the pontoon that got swimmers safely out of the water at the finish. Getting a few hundred tired swimmers out of a tidal river quickly and safely isn't glamorous, but it's exactly the kind of problem we like solving.

Well done to every swimmer who made it from start to finish. That's a serious swim.

The moment of truth: a Madea Mini Crane safely lifts a steel pile in Bristol’s Floating Harbour — while floating on a modular pontoon.
All in a day's work at BM Safety :-)

Throwback to the time we took delivery of 32m² of modular pontoon to float a crane. Having stock ready to go is how we respond quickly when a client needs water access at short notice.
Bridge inspections, events, civil engineering, ecology surveys; if it needs solving on or near water, we've got the kit and the people for it.

Some briefs arrive and you think: right, this is going to need some thinking.
Enviromud needed continuous mud sampling on the River Parrett every 20 minutes across a complete tidal cycle. That includes a 1-metre tidal bore, 6-knot currents, and mud banks deep enough to swallow standard access equipment.

Our solution was to build a floating laboratory. We used a modular pontoon with a moon pool for safe equipment deployment, workboats to manoeuvre the platform as the tide shifted, and our team on the water throughout.
The project ran safely and on schedule.
That's what bespoke pontoon design looks like in practice.

We’ve got great respect for the ropes access teams who make tricky bridge inspections like this one possible.

While they focus on the structure, our water safety team keep their attention on everything below and around it, from the tides to the weather.

These photos are of a bridge inspection working with SAS.

If you're in need of a safety boat or technical water access, get in touch with Matt on [email protected] or 0117 929 1153.

When we started doing safety and access work, our first jobs were consistently for bridge inspections, supporting teams at Griffiths, Walters, Stantec, SAS and more.

Our reputation for quick turnaround and high water safety standards has won us increasingly technical jobs, like this 300m2 modular pontoon, built in three movable sections for Griffiths. (Read the full case study for more about this job, including moving the pontoon during a snow storm.)

If you're managing bridge inspection programmes in Yorkshire or the North East, it's worth a conversation.

Bridge inspections at night take skilful coordination.

From the water, our operatives maintain their position in low visibility. It’s an important part of keeping the inspection team above us safe while the river does whatever it wants.

We’ve built a solid reputation providing safety and access for night bridge inspections in the south, and we're bringing the same capability to the north.

When your team moves a 300m2 pontoon in the snow like it’s no big deal. Come snow or sun, we’re on the job!
